This role sits on the Model Based Definition (MBD)& Design for Excellence (DFx) team withinAdvanced Concepts & Enterprise Engineering (ACE).
Our team is seeking a Enterprise Model-Based Definition (MBD) and Design for Excellence (DFx) Engineer to help implement and scale MBD and DFx capabilities across the enterprise. Blue Origin is actively transitioning new design to model based definition with long term objective of fully model based engineering definition across the Enterprise.
In this role you will develop practical processes standards tools and workflows that improve how engineering intent is captured in Creo and managed through Windchill. You will work with Engineering Manufacturing Quality Inspection Supply Chain and other stakeholders to ensure model-based product definitions are accurate usable and capable of supporting downstream automation.
You will also help embed Design for Excellence principlesincluding manufacturability assembly inspection and producibilityinto engineering-definition practices so that issues can be identified earlier in the design process rather than discovered during production.
This is a hands-on engineering and implementation role. The successful candidate will combine Creo Windchill GD&T and MBD expertise with strong cross-functional collaboration systems thinking and the ability to help engineers adopt new ways of working.
The role may also support the development of automated design checks Creo customizations and AI-enabled engineering assistants. Direct software-development expertise is beneficial but is not required for every candidate.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Enterprise MBD Implementation
- Develop and continuously improve MBD standards processes templates and work instructions for parts assemblies and installations ensuring alignment with ASME Y14.5 ASME Y14.41 and related engineering-definition standard.
- Translate the needs of engineering and downstream stakeholders into clear practical authoring guidance for Creo and Windchill users.
- Improve the quality and machine-readability of product definitions and support integration of MBD practices with the broader PLM and model-based engineering environment.
DFx & Downstream Integration
- Partner with Manufacturing Quality Inspection Supply Chain and Operations to define what downstream users need from engineering definition & translate those needs into design criteria as reflected in MBD standards templates design guidance and model checking workflows.
- Surface producibility and downstream risk earlier in the design cycle through producibility assessments and participation in design reviews.
- Capture production lessons learned and leverage to identify design rules/requirements standards/best practice updates and training needs.
Tools & Training Support
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to reduce manual effort in MBD authoring and model-quality checking.
- Define use cases for Creo customizations design-checking tools and engineering assistants. Partner with Software PLM IT and engineering-tool teams to bring those capabilities into production.
- Support responsible use of AI for engineering guidance standards compliance model validation DFx recommendations and retrieval of approved lessons learned.
Adoption & Technical Enablement
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for MBD Creo Windchill GD&T and engineering-definition practices.
- Provide hands-on coaching to engineers and designers and help resolve complex authoring issues as they come up (MBD Help Desk support Teams Channel etc).
- Develop and deliver training documentation quick-reference guides example models and best practices as applicable.
- Represent MBD and DFx in engineering working groups and communities of practice.
- Assess recurring user issues and feedback then translate them into lasting improvements to standards processes tools and training as applicable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Electrical Aerospace Manufacturing or Systems Engineering or an equivalent technical fieldor equivalent combination of education and experience confirm
- 8 Years Relevant engineering design systems engineering or model-based definition experience
- Advanced Creo proficiency including parametric modeling MBD annotation and GD&T application per ASME Y14.5
- Demonstrated Windchill proficiency including product lifecycle management configuration management and release workflows
- Strong understanding of GD&T best practices and their impact on manufacturing and inspection
- Working knowledge of Design for Excellence (DFx) principles including design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) and how design decisions affect downstream fabrication assembly and inspection
- Familiarity with MBD and interoperability standards including ASME Y14.41 ASME Y14.100 ISO 16792 STEP AP242 and QIF
- Experience translating stakeholder needs into requirements including verification and validation of delivered capability
- Experience developing and delivering training best-practice guides or user documentation for engineering tools or processes and coaching end users through tool or process issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across interdisciplinary teams earn trust and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters or advanced degree in a relevant engineering field
- Experience implementing MBD in a production and/or supply chain environment
- Experience conducting producibility assessments or driving DFx outcomes on production hardware
- Experience taking products from development design into rate production
- Experience translating manufacturing quality or inspection requirements into structured design criteria or standards
- Experience with downstream consumption of MBD data CNC programming CMM inspection MES integration or digital work instructions
- Experience communicating model-based definition requirements to external suppliers or fabricators
- Experience with Creo Toolkit J-Link or Windchill APIs for custom tool development
- Experience building or deploying AI agents LLM-based tools or intelligent engineering assistants
- Experience supporting a formal ticket queue or help desk for engineering tools
- Experience supporting program- or enterprise-level transformations to model-based definition across multiple organizations or business units
- Experience mentoring and developing engineers
- Ability to self-direct and manage multiple concurrent workstreams with minimal oversight
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and its integration with MBD workflows
- Experience influencing and briefing senior leadership
- Familiarity with launch vehicle or spacecraft development and production lifecycles
Base Pay Range for:
CO applicants is $133500.00 - $186898.95 WA applicants is $145188.00 - $203263.20Other site ranges may differ
