Role Requirements & Ideal Profile Migration from Azure to GCP
Windows and Unix/Linux roles require a hybrid skill set:
Strong systems administration (Active Directory Windows Linux provisioning VMware data protection)
4 5 years of cloud exposure
Avoid overly senior high-cost cloud-only profiles
GCP preferred
AWS or Azure backgrounds are acceptable if supported by migration experience or relevant project work (GCE knowledge is a strong plus)
Summary:
The Cloud Platform Engineer is responsible for designing engineering and operating enterprise compute platforms across a hybrid environment spanning on-prem data centers and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role focuses heavily on Google Compute Engine (GCE) cloud-native hypervisors VMware virtualization Unix OS and workload migrations across cloud and on-prem environments. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can translate architectural designs into scalable automated and production-ready solutions while driving standardization automation and operational excellence across Linux-based environments and IBM Power Systems platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design build and support compute platforms across hybrid environments including on-prem data centers and Google Cloud (GCE).
Engineer and manage cloud-native and traditional virtualization platforms including GCE VMware (vSphere/vCenter) and IBM Power Systems (PowerVM).
Lead and execute migrations across environments (on-prem to cloud cloud-to-cloud) leveraging tools such as VMware HCX and native cloud migration frameworks.
Support and maintain IBM Power Systems infrastructure including AIX-based workloads and integrations within hybrid environments.
Translate high-level architecture designs into fully implemented production-ready infrastructure solutions.
Manage and optimize hybrid infrastructure environments ensuring scalability resiliency and performance.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using industry-standard tools (Terraform Ansible etc.) to enable repeatable and automated deployments.
Drive automation initiatives across provisioning configuration management patching and operational workflows.
Build configure and maintain Linux-based systems across multiple distributions (RHEL Ubuntu SUSE) with AIX knowledge considered a strong advantage.
Support and manage enterprise OS environments including OS tuning patching security hardening and lifecycle management.
Partner with middleware application and DevOps teams to align infrastructure capabilities with application requirements.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers promoting best practices and engineering standards.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for infrastructure incidents and drive long-term stability improvements.
Ensure compliance with enterprise standards security policies and configuration baselines.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide support for critical production systems as needed.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with deep focus on Google Compute Engine (GCE).
Deep understanding of cloud-native hypervisors vs. traditional virtualization platforms.
Advanced experience with VMware technologies including vSphere vCenter and HCX migration capabilities.
Hands-on experience with IBM Power Systems (Power Series) including PowerVM and AIX operating systems.
Proven ability to manage and operate hybrid cloud environments (on-prem cloud).
Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) and automation frameworks.
Deep knowledge of Linux operating systems across multiple distributions; AIX expertise highly desirable.
Strong understanding of compute storage and networking fundamentals across both x86 and Power architectures.
Experience implementing and optimizing automation-first engineering practices.
Ability to convert architectural designs into deployable solutions with strong attention to execution quality.
Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams (applications middleware networking security).
Demonstrated ownership accountability and pride in delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.
Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers driving technical capability uplift across the team.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or equivalent experience.
5 8 years of experience in infrastructure engineering cloud engineering or platform operations.
Hands-on experience with GCP or major cloud platforms (AWS/Azure transferable).
Experience with VMware virtualization and enterprise Linux environments.
