Engineering Manager, Instructional Products

Every year Apple releases thousands of new features across its operating systems yet the average user may only ev discover a small fraction of them. The Instructional Products team exists to close that gap. We help users find the features that matter most to them and make the most of do this in a few ways. The Tips app and other contextual experiences surface the right guidance throughout the OS. Siri answers users questions about how a feature works how to accomplish a goal or how to fix an issue. And our troubleshooting and instructional flows help users solve problems and do more with their Apple short we help teams across Apple get their features discovered and get those features delivering real value to looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering organization that builds these experiences. Youll lead through managers across two sites owning the client features we ship in Apples operating systems the frameworks that other teams and developers build on and the content platform that delivers instructional content to devices worldwide.n

You will own engineering for Instructional Products a multi-site organization spanning native client development across Apple platforms developer frameworks and a cloud-based content the client side your teams ship apps system features and frameworks in every major OS release. On the platform side they build and operate the content management system publishing pipeline and content delivery services behind those experiences along with the internal tools our content and design teams use every to day youll set technical direction make investment and staffing decisions and deliver against OS release schedules. nnYoull hire coach and grow managers and raise the technical bar through design reviews and clear standards. Youll partner closely with instructional designers designers editors and program managers who are both your collaborators and the daily users of what your org builds as well as with machine learning partners on the intelligence behind our is part of how this org works both in the products we ship and in how we build them from AI-driven QA to automated code review and internal productivity tools. Own engineering strategy roadmap and delivery for customer-facing apps system features and frameworks as well as the internal content platform and through managers: hire coach and grow engineering managers and senior and deliver against OS release schedules coordinating multiple concurrent projects across all of Apples software the reliability and operations of production the quality compatibility and long-term support of frameworks used by other Apple teams and third-party with machine learning teams on ML- and LLM-driven capabilities in our AI throughout the engineering workflow and use data to measure its effect on velocity and the engineering org to partner teams across Apple and give leadership a clear picture of progress risk and data to assess risk set priorities and make informed decisions.

10 years of professional software engineering experience including 5 years managing engineering shipping and operating both client applications and server-side distributed -on technical depth with the ability to contribute to architecture and design ability to scope staff and deliver multiple complex concurrent projects against fixed deadlines in collaboration with communication skills (oral written and interpersonal) including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Experience owning a public API or developer framework including versioning compatibility and with content platforms publishing pipelines or content management systems at scale including microservices Kubernetes and CDN-based integrating ML or LLM capabilities into shipping adopting AI-powered development workflows across an engineering cross-functional influencer comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent context degree in Computer Science or a related field.
