Were now building a team from the ground up to launch our Gastrointestinal (GI) Care Program. GI conditions affect roughly one in four U.S. adults and drive $135 billion in annual medical spending yet access to specialized care remains limited.

Our planned acquisition of Cylinder Health a leader in virtual-first digestive healthcare gives us a strong foundation for entering this market. Together the teams will combine Cylinders clinical expertise and market presence with Hinge Healths AI-powered care model and technology platform.

This is an opportunity for an engineering leader to build a new product from the ground up shape the future of digital GI care and define the experience millions of Americans could access through their healthcare plans in 2027.

As the Engineering Manager for GI youll build an understanding for the 60M Americans afflicted by this health condition ensuring that Hinge Health builds a comprehensive end-to-end experience to treat them run rapid experiments to validate your assumptions and launch a brand new digital care product for GI. Youll partner closely with senior leadership Product Design and Marketing across our hubs in San Francisco Montreal and Bangalore to build a new GI product. As a hands-on engineering leader youll stay close to the stack regularly contributing to and reviewing code (15% of your time) while building a high-performing team around you.

In your first 3 months you will:

• Build a team of 5 engineers building across our React Native (Phoenix) mobile codebase and backend services (Go & JS) establishing clear goals rituals and expectations for a high-performing team.

• Define the new vertical/product line from scratch.

• Build strong partnerships with Product Design and Marketing to align on the strategy experimentation roadmap and success metrics.

In your first 6 months you will:

• Build the new vertical product as a minimum loveable product (MLP) defining how to use display software AI solutions and licensed care providers to deliver a significant health improvement for members.

• Establish a rigorous portfolio of A/B experiments to run post launch of the new product planning for funnel optimizations to ensure success of members.

• Establish engineering best practices for CI/CD automated testing monitoring and client performance across the entire stack.

• Have launched the new vertical product.

• Execute a series of A/B experiments to increase usage and success of the new product

• Grow and mentor your team raising the bar on engineering quality experimentation rigor and operational excellence.

• 0->1 Builder: We are looking for engineering managers with a track record of building new products from scratch.

• Talent magnet: someone who can quickly pull together a team to build the new vertical product.

• You move fast know how to balance innovation vs reuse and deliver clear business results..

• Hands-on engineering leader: Youre comfortable reading and writing code in modern stacks (e.g. React Native BFF/full-stack web GraphQL) and you use that fluency to coach review and set technical direction.

• Experiment-driven operator: You think in terms of hypotheses sample sizes and decision rules and you can run a dense A/B experimentation roadmap without sacrificing quality.

• Systems and UX thinker: You see how architecture API design and client performance shape real-world member experiencesand you can align cross-functional partners around trade-offs.

• Inclusive team builder: You create clear expectations give direct feedback and foster a culture where engineers can do the best work of their careers.

• A minimum Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience managing a team of 5 engineers in a fast-paced product-focused environment.

• AI-native development: Expertise using tools like Cursor Claude Code or similar AI agents as development resources to drastically improve the pace of experimentation with opinions on prompting agent review and harness engineering.

• Strong React Native mobile or client-side engineering background or equivalent depth in a BFF/full-stack web context with a track record of shipping member-facing UI at scale.

• Experience owning and evolving a major product surface end-to-end from architecture and UX through experimentation and production reliability.

• Demonstrated ability to design run and interpret A/B experiments including comfort reasoning about sample sizes interference effects and decision rules.

• React Native: Experience building or leading teams in large React Native codebases including client performance render optimization and app architecture patterns.

• Server-Driven UI: Familiarity with SDUI patterns and the trade-offs of moving layout and presentation logic from client to server.

• Platform mindset: History operating a shared product surface that other teams extenddefining extension contracts managing inbound requests and protecting stability.

• GraphQL & modern stacks: Familiarity with GraphQL (caching BFF patterns client-driven data-fetching performance) plus working knowledge of Python TypeScript/ AWS services (e.g. Lambda SQS SNS SageMaker) and modern DevOps practices.

• Regulated environments: Experience working within healthcare (HIPAA) or other highly regulated domains involving sensitive member data.

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ and follows Hinge Healths hybrid working model. We believe that remote work and in-person work each have their own advantages and we want to leverage the best of both worlds.
