Job Summary

Summary

You will serve as a Engineering Equipment Operator for the Western Montana NWR Complex. The primary purpose of this position is to operate gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction heavy equipment to complete a variety of Service Projects at various locations.


Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • Operate a variety of types of heavy equipment to excavate backfill grade or level earth Heavy equipment may include bulldozers excavators road graders skid steers backhoes wheeled and tracked loaders and specialized equipment.
  • Operates motor vehicles including: tractor trailers truck and trailer combination stake trucks and dump trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32000 pounds.
  • Performs maintenance on motor vehicles heavy equipment and small equipment.
  • Maintain repair or construct a variety of infrastructure including but not limited to: fences water control structures and buildings.
  • Work includes developing a course of action to manage and complete small to medium land management and earth moving projects and facility maintenance. Operators oversee job site safety and logistics.
  • Operators must remain constantly alert and operate the equipment and machinery safely and carefully to prevent injuries or damage to self others or the equipment.
  • Other Duties As Assigned - Assignments will be reasonably related to the employees job an emergency situation duties which might not reasonably be related to an employees position might have to be assigned.

    • You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

    To qualify for this position you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) To be found minimally qualified your resume must show: I have the ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. I can operate heavy equipment to push pull pile and load materials. Operate a variety of heavy equipment and road work machinery including but not limited to bulldozers backhoes loaders graders excavators motorized brooms and water/sewer tankers.

    Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is used in the operation and adjustment of the equipment and attachments and in the performance of maintenance of facilities equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jolting received from operation of the equipment over rough surfaces. Location of the controls and attachments frequently require work in awkward or strained positions. Considerable energy is needed working in small confined spaces or elevated areas and operating equipment over rough surfaces. Work normally requires extensive standing walking kneeling and bending. Lifts carries and sets up parts equipment and objects or loads up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.

    Working Conditions: Work is accomplished both in an office setting (5%) and outdoors (95%). Works outside in all kinds of weather and frequently exposed to running water fumes electricity dust grease dirt and moving parts of equipment and machinery. Caution must be exercised in working around water or wet soil. Work performed outside is in a variety of settings where steep terrain extremely uneven rocky and slippery footing is normal. Temperature extremes are common. Work is regularly exposed to the possibility of shock cuts scrapes and bruises falls falling material or injury from equipment associated with power equipment or hazardous materials. Work demands conformance to safety requirements including the use of a variety of personal protective equipment such as: protective clothing hardhats hearing protection safety glasses goggles gloves steel toe heavy leather boots respirator and other personal protective items. Serious injury may result from getting caught in operating equipment or from collisions with automobiles when operating on or near public roads.
