Position Summary
Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer I to join our growing engineering organization in Charlotte NC. This entry-level position supports the design and execution of major Power Energy and Industrial projects with a primary focus on steel and concrete structures. The Engineer I will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams to develop safe economical and constructible engineering solutions throughout all phases of project execution.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates and early-career engineers to gain hands-on experience on large EPC design-build and industrial infrastructure projects while developing technical expertise in structural analysis design and project delivery.
Responsibilities
What Youll Do
As a Civil/Structural Engineer I you will:
Assist with the design and analysis of steel reinforced concrete and foundation systems for industrial and power facilities
Prepare engineering calculations design sketches drawings specifications and material take-offs under the supervision of senior engineers
Apply fundamental engineering principles industry standards and applicable building codes to project designs
Support the development of conceptual and detailed structural designs
Coordinate engineering activities with civil mechanical electrical piping and construction teams
Review supplier and vendor submittals for technical compliance with guidance from experienced engineers
Participate in design reviews constructability evaluations and resolution of technical issues
Support field activities including site walkdowns construction support field investigations and troubleshooting
Contribute to the delivery of safe high-quality and cost-effective engineering solutions
Continuously develop technical knowledge through mentorship training and project experience
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Structural Engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited university
0-2 years of civil/structural engineering experience including internships co-op assignments or relevant project experience
Basic understanding of structural steel and reinforced concrete design principles
Familiarity with engineering codes and standards including AISC ACI and IBC
Exposure to structural analysis and design software such as RISA Enercalc or similar tools through coursework internships or professional experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team-oriented environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain certification within the first year of employment
Internship co-op or project experience supporting industrial energy utility manufacturing or power generation facilities
Masters degree in Structural Engineering or a related discipline
Exposure to EPC design-build or heavy industrial projects
Experience with AutoCAD Revit or other engineering design software
Interest in supporting construction and field engineering activities
