EEG Technologist (END Technologist)

The END Technologist 1 prepares patients and conducts routine END procedures in the unit; collects data

pertinent to the interpretation of test results and assists senior technologists or medical staff with complex recordings under indirect supervision.

The END Technologist 1 is an entry to mid-level position in the neurodiagnostic unit or department. The END Technologist 1 performs procedures according to facility policy and procedures. The END Technologist 1 can perform test set up electrode application and maintain patient safety during clinically significant events and other related duties. Communication skills are essential for this position.

EEG Examinations:

• Performs nerve conduction studies under direct supervision and in accordance with the standards and protocols of the department. Implements alternative methods or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings. Accurately places electrodes and measures distances performing EEG studies. Operates equipment and notes pertinent medical conditions or significant anatomical variants for benefit of interpretation by the physician.

Patient Preparation:

• Documents a comprehensive patient history including neurological symptoms and medications. Measures and accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner and with appropriate impedance and may use multiple electrode application techniques. Observes records and attempts to eliminate outside disturbances that may create artifact.

Equipment Maintenance:

• Reports all equipment problems in a timely manner to Clinical Engineer or Facilities as needed. Adjusts and/or repairs as necessary. Troubleshoots problems and keeps the procedure areas and equipment clean tidy and well- stocked at all times.

Other Duties as Assigned

• High school graduate or equivalent and 1 year experience working in a neurodiagnostic patient care environment; OR
• Student enrolled at least 6 months in ABRET recognized program and 6 months experience working in a patient care environment; OR
• Bachelors degree in related field.
• BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

• Entry level PC or Microsoft Windows knowledge.
• Computer literacy
• Ability to troubleshoot common equipment problems
• Clear concise written documentation and interpersonal communication skills
• Knowledge of current techniques/regulatory standards
• Experience working in a patient care environment
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

• One of the following:
  • Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Neurodiagnostic Program
  • or an associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• 2 years of Experience in Pediatric and Adult EEG long term monitoring and EMU.

HRC DCH and KPV locations on campus. Possible exposure to human tissue/fluids and direct patient contact. Ability to carry and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit for up to 8 continuous hours a day. Some standing bending or leaning forward may be needed.
