Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) is seeking an Emergency Coordinator to support Virginia agriculture consumer protection and environmental stewardship. This position provides coordination of emergency services operations and planning in support of the agencys mission and strategic plan. The Emergency Coordinator is expected to assist all areas of the agency with emergency planning training and response; provides leadership to Virginias Emergency Support Function 11 team; maintain and update the agencys Continuity of Operations Plan; assist the agencys efforts in operating pet shelters in support of Virginia human state managed shelters; support staff during various emergencies that could impact VDACS to include potential animal disease outbreaks; assist with policy review and development at the state level review and analyze external regulations and laws and perform research and policy analysis relating to emergency preparedness response and worker safety in the agribusiness sector; and work on various projects to support the agency. This position will be on call and have to occasionally respond to emergencies after business hours and on weekends. Once onboarded this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability hours and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealths telework policy.
Minimum Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of emergency management principles and practices services operations and planning techniques preferably as related to public health or consumer protection. Demonstrate ability to plan set goals and objectives to achieve results; to make sound analytical decisions; and to work independently. Ability to develop and promulgate teamwork and coordination within the agency while working with internal and external clients state and federal agencies agency staff and management and industry and consumer groups and citizens. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; proven customer service skills; effective presentations skills. Proven experience in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with diverse internal and external individuals and groups. Proficiency in the usage of computers and Microsoft Office. Experience managing and tracking projects. Current or recent experience in a similar type of position that includes planning developing and implementing emergency regulatory or agricultural programs. Must have and maintain a valid drivers license with a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety. Must be able to achieve and maintain the requirements of Agency VEST Liaison and Emergency Management Coordinator in Executive Order 41 (2019) and any future directives with specified timeframes.
Additional Considerations
A combination of related education training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge skills and abilities to include knowledge of emergency management and agribusiness may substitute for education and experience.
