Job Summary

Summary

The Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) Mid-Atlantic Region - Naval Station Norfolk is looking for the best brightest and most adventurous individuals to join our team as an Embedded Integrated Prevention Coordinator (EIPC). The EIPC will serve aboard a Nuclear-Powered Aircraft Carrier (CVN) or Large Deck Amphibious Assault Ship/ Landing Helicopter Assault Ship (LHD/LHA) Command deploying with the ship and providing support services in-port or at sea.


Duties

The primary purpose of the position is to collaborate with the command leadership and serve as a non-clinical trainer to ensure the delivery of integrated primary prevention programs designed to foster individual group and organizational health and performance to reduce and prevent problematic/destructive behaviors. These integrated prevention programs address behaviors including but not limited to suicide sexual harassment sexual assault substance misuse family and interpersonal violence workplace violence and military equal opportunity. The EIPC collaborates with other prevention enablers to assess the health of a unit serving on the Command Resiliency Team and coordinates with subject matter experts across programs in implementing prevention initiatives and training/education. Workshop offerings may include stress management anger management effective communication parenting education operational stress control successful adaptation to military life pre/post deployment and child abuse or domestic abuse identification/prevention and interpersonal violence.

The success of this position is based on the incumbents ability to successfully embed within the command and operate within a shipboard environment. The EIPC actively engages crew members in various resiliency programs in order to ensure highest level of crew readiness for complex missions at sea.
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Establishes prevention activities at the command and unit level to include determining goals objectives measures of performance and effectiveness assessments and milestones.
  • Work with command leadership and Command Resilience Teams (CRTs) to identify existing or potential risk factors that can lead to problematic/destructive behaviors and recommends preventive measures the installation command or unit can take to address the potential risk factors.
  • May assist the command leadership in participating in prevention-based research.
  • Reviews and coordinates relevant primary prevention actions and projects across programs and ensures completion dates are met within established timeframes.
  • Develops population-based and/or targeted prevention efforts to support the unique needs of the installation command and/or unit level.
  • Executes core functions of an optimized prevention system such as engagement implementation evaluation and integration.
  • Serves as a non-clinical trainer/educator and is responsible for collaborating with the Deployed Resiliency Counselor (DRC) and the command leadership in assessing the training need and ensuring the delivery of a wide variety of educational programs and services.
  • Facilitates prevention classes that focuses on building resiliency enhancing adaptation to the unique challenges of military life and reduce unplanned losses.
  • Provides Fleet & Family Support Center (FFSC) training. The entire portfolio of Work & Family Life (WFL) Counseling Advocacy Program (CAP) NGS and Sexual Assault Prevention & Response (SAPR) training should be provided based on commands training needs.
  • Gives routine presentations to leadership on command prevention efforts and impact.
  • Delivers ongoing primary prevention training and education as needed to build and sustain prevention capacity and capability.
  • Deploys to deliver Departure and Separation and Return & Reunion workshops.
  • Supports the homeport FFSC general and crisis response programs to include emergency preparedness and mass care when not deployed.
  • Assists the DRC and the command in the coordination of special project activities related to the CAP SAPR and WFL programs including but not limited to command directed or FFSC monthly themes and resiliency projects.
  • Refers Sailors for counseling and/or other services to the Deployed Resiliency Coordinator or the homeport FFSC.
  • Coordinates with the DRC in planning scheduled workshops programs command briefs and general military trainings (GMTs) presented on the ship and at other locations.

  • Must pass all applicable records and background check.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • This position is mission essential; incumbent may be required to travel deploy or provide services at homeport during a variety of crisis and disasters.
  • The work schedule while deployed will vary depending on requirements. The incumbent will be on call 24 hours a day while deployed for crisis intervention situations.
  • At sea the incumbent shares a stateroom in officer berthing; meals are obtained by joining the Officers Mess as a paying member and meals are purchased by monthly billing.
  • Incumbent will be required to deploy at sea on board US Navy ships. Deployment lengths will vary from a few days to over 10 months at a time.
  • Due to the unique nature of the position selectee will be required to complete a physical examination upon entry to duty and annually thereafter and be determined to be physical fit for shipboard duty at all times.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US No-Fee Passport upon employment.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Starting May 7 2025 non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID-compliant drivers license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations. (review required documents section for more information.)
Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess:

  • Knowledge skills and/or experience that demonstrate the incumbents ability to work collaboratively to implement integrated prevention programs.
  • Knowledge or experience that demonstrate incumbents ability to appropriately identify implement and evaluate prevention methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the military language customs and culture to include navigating shipboard dynamics.
  • Knowledge of the psychological and/or socioeconomic stresses caused by prolonged separations which affect individuals families mission performance and command readiness.
  • Knowledge of FFSP mission functions policies and procedures.
  • Skills sufficient to provide technical assistance in prevention-related areas.
  • Skill in delivery of education services with a focus on human/personal growth and development.
  • Skill in consulting with management to obtain or exchange information about work objectives processes procedures and policies.
  • Skill in networking and collaborating with all military services.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g. Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).
  • Ability to identify needs trends and performance measures to evaluate program effectiveness and provide recommendations for process improvements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of management staff and military personnel.
  • Ability to compose written reports and material clearly concisely and effectively.
  • Ability to deliver evidenced-based prevention training/education to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to use data management and reporting systems to collect and organize data drawn from databases.
  • Ability to maintain accurate statistical framework for program data collection and reports.
  • Ability to meet and deal effectively with diversified groups organizations and individuals and to maintain and establish clear relationships and lines of
  • communication at all levels using tact and diplomacy in all interactions.
Education

A bachelors degree or higher in adult education behavioral science social science or in a related behavioral science field AND three years of specialized experience related to the work of the position.

OR

A combination of education (in adult education behavioral science social science or in a related behavioral science field) and specialized experience related to the work of the position.
