Elementary Teacher

PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Principal the elementary teacher is responsible for planning delivering and assessing instruction for assigned students in alignment with the Districts philosophy curriculum policies and procedures. The teacher creates a positive inclusive and engaging learning environment supports the social emotional and academic growth of all students and collaborates with colleagues parents and the broader school community to promote student success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Meetsand instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the timesdesignated.
• Plansa program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Preparesfor classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Guidesthe learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goal establishes clear objectives for all lessonsunits projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
• Employsa variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Strives to implement by instruction and action the Districts philosophy ofeducation and instructional goals and objectives.
• Assessesthe accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
• Takesall necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
• Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law District policy and administrative regulation.
• Assiststhe administration in implementing all policies and rules governingstudent life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonablerules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroomin a fair and just manner.
• Makesprovision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required orrequested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Plansand supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistant(s) and volunteer(s) and cooperatively with department heads evaluates their job performances.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competences.
• Attendsstaff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Participate in and take responsibility for assigned duties e.g. playground lunchroom duty etc.

• Reflect upon own teaching performance and accept/ implement supervisory feedback to improve skills and services to students.

• Take responsibility for pursuing and evaluating own professional growth.

• Attend and participate in building staff meetings and district inservice meetings.

• Participate in activities that are related to school functions and/or the education process that occur outside the regular workday in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

• Work collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social and academic needs of all students.

• Perform in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff students and the public and enhances learning.

• Maintain regular attendance at work and work activities and is punctual in meeting deadlines attending meetings and following designated work schedule.

• Continue development of job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.

• Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriately as defined by the district.

• Valid Oregon teachers license with appropriate endorsement and grade level authorization.

• Knowledgeof teaching principles/techniques District philosophy curriculum policy and procedure governing classroom instruction.
• Skill in assessing planning and implementing programs of study for students that will contribute to their development as mature able and responsiblemen and women.
• Abilityto apply effective principles of teaching to direct and motivate students.
• Abilityto be responsible for the learning environment of assigned students and for supervising assigned teacher assistants and volunteers.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community.
• Ability to travel among district facilities as needed and if driving the ability to meet district driving standards.
• Adherence to safety practices.
