The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an electrician for fire alarms responsible for installing modifying overhauling maintaining troubleshooting testing and repairing fire alarm systems including the city loop and digitizer at the Fire station as well as other alarm equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity.


Duties

1. Installs repairs replaces modifies loads and tests new and existing electrical lines circuits systems fixtures panels switches breakers and controls as well as installs modifies overhauls maintains troubleshoots and repairs fire alarm systems and equipment of moderate complexity or a system of moderate complexity.
2. Troubleshoots problem areas inspects for defective equipment and examines faulty wiring. Additionally installs repairs replaces modifies loads and tests new and existing electrical lines circuits systems fixtures panels switches breakers and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures.
3. Maintains software/firmware for new installs and makes programming changes to existing software/firmware for alarm systems subsystems and devices.
4. Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools such as screwdrivers pliers wire cutters soldering irons cable pullers hydraulic benders and pipe threading machines.
5. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings weekends and/or holidays.
  • May be required to serve on call and may be required to be available after duty hours when problems arise. The incumbent is subject to call seven days a week 24 hours a day.
  • Possession of a Class D Systems Technician License (electrician) or greater is required.
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification in writing that your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate valid drivers license is required for the position.
  • The work will require the employee to carry a cell phone.
  • Safeguards budget information and/or files.
  • May be required to train/guide other employees.
  • Employee will be required to support Base Readiness and Emergency Operations Exercises and real-world threats events and support Special Events (i.e. Annual Air Show Base Exercises) not necessarily performing in their primary skill code.
  • May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective clothing and gear on these occasions.
  • Employee will be required to augment the Civil Engineering Snow Removal Team not necessarily performing in their primary skill code.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
Qualifications

Conditions of Employment Continued:

  • The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Makes repairs from work stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand stoop bend kneel climb stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers.


In order to qualify you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
