Job Summary

AECOM Water is actively seeking an Electrical Engineer Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) to join our team in Akron OH.

This position will support the design programming integration and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities pump stations conveyance systems and related municipal infrastructure.

The successful candidate will work as part of multidisciplinary project teams and receive technical direction and mentorship from senior electrical and I&C engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems for water and wastewater treatment plants pump stations conveyance facilities and related infrastructure.
  • Prepare and modify I&C engineering drawings and documentation including P&IDs I/O lists control system architectures loop diagrams wiring diagrams control narratives and equipment specifications.
  • Assist with the selection specification and integration of field instrumentation PLCs remote I/O VFDs control panels and industrial communication networks.
  • Support the programming and configuration of PLC HMI and SCADA systems including control logic HMI screen development alarms data acquisition and trending.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and assist with the preparation of technical specifications equipment data sheets cost estimates and engineering reports.
  • Coordinate with electrical process mechanical civil and other engineering disciplines and assist with the review of vendor drawings equipment submittals and contractor RFIs.
  • Participate in site investigations Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) system integration testing commissioning and startup activities under the direction of senior engineering staff.

Physical requirements:

  • Position requires the ability to maintain situational awareness and recognize and respond to visual and audible safety indicators warnings alarms (such as but not limited to confined space gas detector alarm sound) etc. and perform job in a safe manner.
  • Position frequently requires manual hand dexterity to work with very small wires 1/10 terminals and components without damage.
  • Frequently remove 100-200lb manhole lid with the assistance of a hook tool perform gas checks and enter manhole.
  • Position requires wearing and utilizing the associated personal protective / safety equipment including but not limited to body harness gloves eye and hearing protection respirator biohazard suit electrical arc flash suit safety boots hard hat face shield.
  • Frequently ascend/descend a ladder or scaffolding in a reasonable time.
  • Frequently pull upward with 50 lbs force to clean sensor wells pull tools upward and other similar tasks.
  • Occasionally work in confined spaces that require ducking/crawling under 3 ft high horizontal obstacles.
  • Frequently carry 40 lb weight unassisted (such as tools or equipment load or unload or carry them from point to point or possibly carry steps) 500 ft in 5 minutes or in a reasonable time.
  • Frequently perform mechanical work tasks handle and utilize a 2 lb hammer hammer drill drill press reciprocating saw manual conduit bender conduit threading tool 2 ft pipe wrench.
  • Possess license to operate a public road vehicle. Operate company light duty truck/vehicle safely.
  • Occasionally work at 20 30 feet heights such as roofs.
  • This position requires working outdoors on uneven terrain and in variable climate conditions including heat snow cold wind the Midwest region.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Controls Engineering or closely related engineering discipline plus 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid US drivers license required and must be able to pass AECOMs Motor Vehicle Records Review.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or academic/project exposure related to instrumentation control systems industrial automation PLCs SCADA or electrical system design.
  • Experience designing or programming instrumentation and control systems for water/wastewater industrial manufacturing process or similar facilities.
  • Experience with PLC programming platforms such as Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 Schneider Electric Siemens or similar systems.
  • Experience with SCADA/HMI platforms such as AVEVA/Wonderware Ignition FactoryTalk or similar software.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication networks and protocols including Ethernet/IP and Modbus.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation selection I/O development control panel design control system architecture and electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience developing or reviewing P&IDs control narratives I/O lists loop diagrams wiring diagrams and instrumentation specifications.
  • Exposure to water or wastewater treatment processes pump stations municipal infrastructure or other process-control environments.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward obtaining EIT certification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
