Job Summary
About the Role:
The EHS Coordinator also commonly searched as Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator Safety Coordinator EHS Specialist or Environmental Safety Coordinator supports workplace safety environmental compliance and regulatory programs at a manufacturing facility in Birmingham Alabama. This role works closely with operations production maintenance and leadership teams to strengthen safety culture reduce workplace risk maintain regulatory compliance and drive continuous improvement across environmental health and safety programs.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate environmental health and safety programs to maintain compliance with OSHA EPA state local and internal safety requirements.
- Conduct routine facility inspections safety audits hazard assessments and job safety analyses to identify workplace risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Support incident investigations root cause analysis corrective and preventive actions and documentation for workplace injuries near misses safety concerns and environmental events.
- Develop coordinate and deliver employee safety training covering PPE hazard communication lockout/tagout emergency response ergonomics safe work practices and other applicable EHS topics.
- Maintain OSHA logs safety records training documentation inspection reports environmental records and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Monitor EHS performance metrics identify trends and collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams to improve safety performance and reduce workplace incidents.
- Assist with environmental compliance activities including hazardous materials waste management spill prevention air and water requirements and environmental reporting.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging employees supporting safety committees communicating EHS best practices and reinforcing established safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Health and Safety Occupational Safety Environmental Science Industrial Safety Engineering or a related field or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Experience in environmental health and safety occupational safety industrial safety or regulatory compliance preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations workplace safety standards hazard identification incident investigation and corrective action processes.
- Ability to conduct safety inspections risk assessments job hazard analyses and employee safety training.
- Strong communication documentation organizational analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with production employees and management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS documentation reporting recordkeeping and compliance systems.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience supporting EHS programs within manufacturing metals heavy industry fabrication foundry or similar industrial operations.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification or professional safety credentials such as ASP CSP GSP or CHMM.
- Knowledge of EPA requirements hazardous waste management environmental permitting emergency response and ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience with continuous improvement behavior-based safety root cause analysis corrective action management and EHS performance metrics.
