Job Summary
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) isfunded through the United StatesDepartment of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) asa nutritioneducation program withinColorado State University Extension. EFNEPteaches low-income families how to prepare healthy meals on a budget and to increase their physical activity to reduce the risk of chronic disease. EFNEP Educators recruit andteachlow-income adults andyouth fora series of in-person lessons on nutrition physical activity food safety and food resource management.
The EFNEP Peer Educator position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health of your community and to help individuals and families lead healthier lives. The person in this position is a local representative of Colorado State University and works under the supervision of the designated EFNEP Supervisor. Daily travel within the county isrequired; mileage is EFNEP Peer Educator positions willbe located incounties throughout the FrontRange are looking to fill 2 positionslocatedin these counties Arapahoe County (1) and Larimer County (1).
The starting salary will be in the range of $ (based on 0.75 FTE or 30 hours/week). This salary equates to approximately $21.64/hour.
Teachlow-incomeadultand youth about nutrition food safety food budgetingand physical activity using approved curricula and materials.
Explain the benefits of attending EFNEP to low-income families andencourage them to enroll.
Meet with agencies/organizations to raise awareness about the program.
Collect required information from program participants.
Review required information to ensure it is complete andaccurate.
Submit paperwork accurately and on time.
Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (requiredfor new hires) travel.
Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date;the Office of Engagement and Extensionwill not sponsor a visa for this position.
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Able to speak read and write in English and Spanish.
Able toliftupto 30 pounds to transport teaching materials in and out ofvehicle 2-3 times per day.
Able to work independently in an organized and trustworthy manner.
Have an understanding and appreciation of people on low incomes and of ethnic minorities and the ability to relate to them in a respectful and sensitive manner.
Familiar with federal foodassistanceprograms (WIC SNAP CommodityFoods National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs).
Experience being a self-starter with drive and initiative.
Experience accurately following directions and collecting andsubmittingforms on time.
Experience working as part of a team.
Experience working with volunteers.
