The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is one of the two largest colleges at the University of Hawaii at Hilo with two major divisions: Humanities and Social Sciences. CAS offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees Masters degrees and specialized undergraduate certificates in various programs. The Education Specialist plays a vital role within the School of Educations teacher preparation programs serving as the primary liaison for school partnerships clinical field placements and candidate advising. Working directly under the School Director this position collaborates across undergraduate and graduate programs to ensure high-quality teacher education oversee student progress for accreditation and state compliance and mentor candidates through their clinical experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities (* denotes essential functions)

1. *Oversee student teaching field experiences of our teacher candidates including teaching field and professional courses and providing one to one advising.
2. *Supervise and coordinate field supervision (faculty and contracted).
3. *Build and maintain relationships with partner schools and community partners and coordinate with school partners to arrange field placements for student teaching.
4. *Track and manage students in Airtable (data management software).
5. Collaborates with SOE faculty and staff to improve the implementation and delivery of our teacher education programs.
6. Monitor legislative HSTB BOR and other supervisory bodies on policies bills and other initiatives that may impact our teacher preparation programs.
7. Attend statewide workgroup meetings as assigned by director.
8. Provide data analysis for accreditation annual teacher education reports and other internal reports as required.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field and four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program management in an educational setting; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of teacher education clinical experiences as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with teacher education preparation and student confidentiality in higher education settings.
4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software and data management systems
8. For supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.

1. Masters Degree in any field.
2. Five (5) years of experience in teacher education and field placement.
3. Experience Teaching and/or advising students in higher educational settings.
4. Knowledge of Hawaii-based culturally responsive and sustaining practices.
5. Understanding of Hawaii Islands educational and community landscape including the HIDOE local schools and complex areas youth-serving organizations and place-based factors influencing student wellness and engagement.
6. Knowledge of the University of Hawaii system including familiarity with campus operations student support structures and administrative processes across UH units.
7. Existing working relationships with school and community partners in the state.
8. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of teacher education preparation programs and accreditation.
9. Comprehensive knowledge of licensure and federal and state laws and systems and policies associated with teacher education.
