The Director Scientific Technology & Laboratory Systems is the people and process leader accountable for Sareptas scientific technology platforms and laboratory technology operating model. This leader directs multiple teams through subordinate managers and senior technical leaders with responsibility for laboratory applications instrument and endpoint technology services business analysis software development portfolio governance service delivery vendor management technology lifecycle planning and laboratory technology risk management. The Director partners with Research Development Quality Manufacturing Information Security Validation and other business and IT functions to translate scientific and operational needs into practical strategies multi-year roadmaps prioritized investments and reliable solutions. The role is approximately 75% strategic and 25% operational and requires a leader who can build a high-performing organization establish scalable processes challenge architecture decisions and selectively advance automation AI and digital laboratory capabilities based on validated business need.The Position
Sarepta is seeking a strategic business-oriented technology leader to direct the Scientific Technology and Laboratory Systems organization. This role is accountable for the performance and evolution of the processes people platforms and services that enable laboratory operations across the company. The Director will lead managers and senior professionals spanning laboratory instrument and endpoint technology services scientific applications business analysis and software development. The successful candidate will establish clear accountability mature governance and service-management practices and create integrated multi-year roadmaps covering business demand platform capabilities upgrades obsolescence technical debt operational resilience and emerging technology opportunities. This leader will maintain sufficient technical depth to evaluate options and challenge architecture decisions while achieving results primarily through managers process leadership cross-functional influence and strong business partnership.
The Opportunity to Make a Difference
Provide leadership and direction through subordinate managers and senior technical leaders for an organization of approximately 20 employees and contractors supporting scientific technology platforms and laboratory technology operations.
Build a high-performing accountable organization by setting clear goals defining decision rights developing leaders planning succession managing performance and strengthening capabilities across laboratory infrastructure instrumentation support applications business analysis and software development.
Own and continuously improve the Lab Systems operating model including demand intake triage prioritization governance resource planning delivery oversight service ownership escalation metrics and continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain an integrated multi-year scientific technology roadmap aligned with Research Development Quality Manufacturing and broader company strategies including platform maturity upgrades lifecycle milestones obsolescence technical debt and support-model evolution.
Direct the strategy lifecycle and service delivery for scientific technology platforms and laboratory systems including LIMS ELN instrument software and integrations laboratory endpoints and related applications and services.
Mature the LabVantage platform and support model establishing sustainable ownership development release support integration and vendor-management practices that meet current and future business needs.
Establish an effective instrument technology lifecycle and asset-management program for laboratory computers connectivity supporting software service status risk and technology obsolescence. Partner with business functions that retain budget ownership for new and replacement laboratory equipment.
Build a formal Lab Systems demand and portfolio governance process; translate business priorities into sequenced initiatives capacity and resource plans investment recommendations release plans and measurable outcomes.
Own departmental financial planning and budget execution for Lab Systems technology services staffing contractors and vendors. Provide transparent forecasts identify tradeoffs and maintain accountability for approved investments. Business functions retain capital ownership for laboratory instruments and replacement equipment.
Manage strategic vendors and service providers including relationship governance contractual performance service levels issue escalation roadmap alignment and value realization.
Own laboratory technology risk management including identification assessment treatment planning escalation continuity considerations unsupported technology and operational resilience. Partner with Information Security on cybersecurity matters and with the designated Validation and Quality organizations on CSA/CSV strategy inspection readiness SOP governance periodic reviews training compliance and vendor qualification.
Partner with business and technology stakeholders to evaluate and advance automation AI integration and digital laboratory opportunities when supported by a defined business need practical value appropriate governance and sustainable ownership.
Ensure architecture and solution decisions are supportable scalable integrated and aligned with enterprise standards. Challenge technical recommendations constructively and engage appropriate architecture infrastructure security data validation and quality partners.
Define and monitor operational and portfolio performance indicators service expectations delivery commitments risks and improvement plans; communicate progress decisions resource needs and tradeoffs clearly to senior and executive leadership.
Maintain awareness of relevant scientific technology laboratory informatics vendor regulatory and industry trends; convert applicable developments into pragmatic recommendations and roadmap decisions.
Create strong partnerships with scientific and operational leaders ensuring the organization is responsive prepared transparent and focused on measurable business outcomes.
More about You
Bachelors degree in Information Technology Computer Science Engineering Life Sciences or a related field; advanced degree is preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered consistent with company policy.
12 years of progressive experience in scientific technology laboratory informatics laboratory systems enterprise applications or a related technology discipline including experience in a regulated life sciences environment.
Demonstrated success leading multiple functional teams through subordinate managers and senior professionals including accountability for organizational performance talent development succession planning and delivery outcomes.
Proven process leadership with experience establishing or maturing operating models portfolio governance demand management service management lifecycle management performance metrics and continuous-improvement practices.
Experience developing multi-year technology strategies and roadmaps that integrate business demand platform capabilities lifecycle events upgrades technical debt operational risk resources and investment priorities.
Broad knowledge of laboratory technology ecosystems including LIMS ELN scientific applications instrument software and integrations laboratory endpoints and vendor-supported platforms. LabVantage experience is strongly preferred.
Ability to understand complex technical and scientific requirements evaluate solution options challenge architecture decisions and translate technical concepts into practical business strategy without acting as the primary hands-on architect.
Experience managing strategic vendors contracts service providers budgets forecasts and resource plans with a record of improving service quality and value.
Working knowledge of technology risk management business continuity system lifecycle and obsolescence GxP expectations and the interfaces among IT Information Security Quality and Validation responsibilities.
Demonstrated ability to partner credibly with Research Development Quality Manufacturing laboratory operations senior management and external providers in a matrixed organization.
Strong executive communication influence negotiation and decision-making skills including the ability to present strategies and plans clarify tradeoffs resolve difficult issues and build alignment across functions.
Experience evaluating automation AI integration and digital laboratory opportunities based on business need value risk governance and operational sustainability.
Highly accountable decisive collaborative and action-oriented with the ability to balance long-term strategy with operational stewardship and timely issue resolution.
