Purpose

Multinational Coverage (MNC) is a key growth pillar of Scotiabanks refreshed strategy which entails the delivery of consistent in depth and dedicated local coverage across Scotiabanks global footprint with the goal to deepen our client relationships.

The Director Commercial Banking U.S. & Multinational Coverage is responsible for leading Scotiabanks U.S. commercial banking connection of U.S. subsidiaries of Canadian-based multinational clients.

The role serves as the strategic bridge between Canadian Commercial Banking Global Transaction Banking and the Banks multinational coverage model by delivering coordinated onboarding KYC and risk understanding U.S. cash management capabilities including deposit treasury and working capital solutions across the Banks footprint.

Working closely with Parent Account Managers (PAMs) Relationship Team and product partners globally the Director is accountable for driving primacy with multinational clients through seamless onboarding enterprise-wide relationship management disciplined risk governance and the delivery of integrated cross-border banking solutions.

What Youll Do

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships systems and knowledge.

  • Support Commercial Banking Parent Account Managers (PAMs) in developing and managing holistic global account plans and executing on local and global multi-product plans to grow the global relationship of our MNCs

  • Promotes the development & profitable growth of the Commercial Banking as it relates to both Global Transaction Banking products/services and Deposit options in the assigned U.S. market area
    • Coordinate cross-border coverage strategies that leverage Scotiabanks global footprint to strengthen client primacy and accelerate wallet share growth.
    • Drive growth in deposits treasury services payments liquidity and working capital solutions across the multinational client portfolio.
    • Act as a subject matter expert on U.S. commercial banking onboarding and GTB U.S. capabilities for internal stakeholders.
    • Develop sales plans for prospects and existing customers.
    • Identify prospects/referrals from other internal/external networks.
    • Refer customers and prospects to the appropriate Commercial Banking segment and partners in other business lines and divisions.

  • Serve as the sponsor for onboarding and expansion activities related to U.S. subsidiaries of Canadian commercial banking clients.
    • Lead the end-to-end onboarding experience coordinating internal teams to ensure timely account opening KYC completion and product implementation.
    • Partner with Operations GTB Compliance Risk and Legal teams to resolve onboarding service and operational challenges.
    • Ensure a consistent high-quality client experience across all jurisdictions and product partners.
    • Gather client feedback and identify opportunities to improve onboarding efficiency client satisfaction and scalability.

  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and service enhancements acting as SME for U.S. Cash Management and Deposits capabilities:
    • Collaborate with GTB product partners to identify opportunities and give feedback based on evolving capabilities that meet multinational client needs.
    • Maintain deep knowledge of market trends U.S. banking infrastructure payment ecosystems and competitor capabilities and communicating to team members and clients as necessary.
    • Support the commercialization and adoption of new GTB capabilities across the multinational portfolio.

  • Ensures all aspects of assigned relationships receive ongoing attention as required to maintain improve grow and retain the relationship
    • Partner with internal operations teams to ensure efficient onboarding and effective day to day delivery of Cash Management and Deposit operations
    • Actively seek customer feedback on Bank products and services and the delivery of customer service;
    • Action suggestions to continually improve customer satisfaction and processes improvements which may be received directly from clients or through client satisfaction vehicles such as the Pulse.
    • Maintain strong governance and oversight across onboarding KYC AML sanctions and regulatory processes.
    • Ensure all client activity aligns with the Banks risk appetite operational standards and regulatory obligations.
  • Champion continuous process improvement initiatives that enhance scalability efficiency and client outcomes.

  • Understand how the Banks risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabanks Values its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational compliance AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What Youll Bring

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in business or economics or work equivalency

Skills/Work Experience

  • Previous work experience of at least 5 years is preferred
  • Very strong sales/closing skills
  • Strong networking ability with strong interest in liaising with colleagues across different
    jurisdictions and product groups
  • Very strong negotiation skills
  • Very strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to this position. The incumbent must be able to effectively articulate their views both within the Bank and externally in the marketplace.
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Good knowledge of credit skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Banks commercial payments and cash management products/services and deposit/treasury solutions as well as customer profitability model in order to provide integrated financial solutions.
  • Ability to conduct due diligence on the strength of customer financials for deals of moderate to higher complexity
  • Through knowledge of relationship building and teamwork skills
  • The incumbent requires a strong knowledge of the commercial banking marketplace in Canada and a detailed knowledge of the assigned market areas key industries and competitive positioning within the assigned market area. The incumbent understands the Commercial Banking objectives and has a thorough knowledge of segment strategies and structure as well as its lending and deposit products and services.
  • Good knowledge of Onboarding Know Your Customer Anti Money Laundering processes
  • Good PC skills are necessary including a working knowledge of MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook and other commercial systems and platforms.
