Position Overview
The Digital Learning & Technology Specialist supports high-quality teaching and learning through the effective integration of digital tools data-informed practices and emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy. This role facilitates the implementation of the Districts Technology Plan Professional Development Plan and curriculum and assessment initiatives. By partnering with educators and instructional leaders this specialist strengthens instructional design assessment and student engagement through coaching collaborative problem-solving and the promotion of project-based learning MTSS and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching & Classroom Support
- Partner with educators across all levels and departments to design co-teach and integrate Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) standards computational thinking and informational literacy skills into existing units of study including digital citizenship AI literacy and ethical tool usage.
- Provide job-embedded coaching co-planning team teaching and lesson modeling to support educators effectively integrate district-approved digital tools across disciplines.
- Demonstrate how specific educational technologies meet curriculum objectives and assist teachers in developing and maintaining effective web-supported/LMS classrooms.
- May teach assigned technology digital literacy or computer science classes or modules.
Professional Learning & Development
- Actively maintain a current knowledge base by engaging in continuous exploration of emerging digital tools attending Edtech conferences/associations and modeling digital adaptability for staff.
- Design and facilitate professional learning (workshops credit courses PLCs) on effective instructional technology foundational AI concepts Generative AI for lesson design prompt engineering and ethical guidelines.
- Develop and lead the districts New Teacher Technology Training and multi-session induction program including comprehensive follow-up sessions.
- Curate and maintain the district database of instructional resources digital tools research-based innovations and PD opportunities to support equitable implementation across classrooms and schools.
Data Integration Privacy and Assessment
- Provide technical training and operational support for district assessment platforms (e.g. NWEA mCLASS/DIBELS) manage testing windows and support annual statewide testing.
- Support the instructional use of data dashboards and reporting systems collaborating with leaders to translate assessment results into actionable insights for student growth and equity.
- Ensure student data privacy compliance (FERPA/COPPA) across digital and AI-powered platforms Digital Use Policy tracking and assist in developing district guidelines for academic integrity.
- Work with the Director of Curriculum and Professional Practice among other district leaders to provide training for administrative software interfaces (e.g. PowerSchool grading attendance etc.) and assist with mandated annual family reporting.
Assistive Technology & Special Programs
- Work in cooperation with ETLs and the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services to ensure appropriate assistive technology software is provided to staff and students.
- Conduct student observations consultations and audits in order to assist with and provide recommendations for assistive technology.
- Support Special Programs by providing staff training and direct support for students requiring specialized digital tools.
Collaboration & Systems Alignment
- Serve as a member of the Innovation Technology & Entrepreneurship Team working closely with the Director of Digital Learning & Innovation to ensure deployed resources are supported.
- Research preview and evaluate instructional software and hardware including supporting district one-to-one initiatives.
- Provide just-in-time support and refer technical matters to appropriate personnel and instructional teams when necessary.
- Participate in the writing of State technology grants and reports.
Core Competencies & Qualifications
- Valid Massachusetts DESE License as Instructional Technology Specialist (PreK-12) or Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS 6-12) or School Administration license
- Deep understanding of the Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) Curriculum Frameworks and experience embedding DLCS competencies across content areas.
- Demonstrated proficiency with K-12 digital ecosystems including Google Workspace for Education (and AI extensions) Learning Management Systems (e.g. Canvas Google Classroom) and multi-OS environments (iPad OS ChromeOS Windows).
- Classroom teaching experience with demonstrated effective use of instructional technology.
- Experience supporting adult learners through coaching or professional learning.
- Familiarity with UDL MTSS and equity-centered instructional practices.
- Experience with student data systems and digital assessment tools.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy including understanding how AI works integrating within existing pedagogies crafting prompts and evaluating ethical frameworks for PreK-12 education.
- Strong facilitation communication collaboration relationship building and systems thinking.
- May perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning
