Job Summary

This position is a member of the operations and manufacturing team with a primary focus on diamond turning and precision optical manufacturing. The diamond Turning Operator will learn to set up operate and monitor ultra-precision machining equipment used to manufacture optical components for imaging and laser-based systems.

The work includes machine setup part loading and alignment in-process inspection and basic troubleshooting. The operator will develop an understanding of diamond turning processes optical component manufacturing and precision measurement techniques.

Prior diamond turning or optics experience is not required. Training will be provided for candidates with strong mechanical aptitude attention to detail and an interest in learning ultra-precision manufacturing.


Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Primary responsibility is to run the diamond turning machines.
  • Run Datron Machine (3-Axis Mill)
  • Lens polishing
  • Package and sort lenses per specifications and blueprints.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • General use of computers for transacting work.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical background preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of geometrical optics and physical optics.
  • Familiar with interferometry optical testing and optical alignment techniques.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability and willingness to work well with others in a collaborative team environment.
  • Able to read blueprints.
  • Able to use micrometers drop indicators and calipers.
  • Self-motivated capable of setting and reaching ambitious goals.
  • Excellent communication skills detail oriented and well organized.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Conscientious of safety for self and others.
  • Wilcox is a U.S. government defense contractor and this position requires access to export-controlled technology. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access U.S. government-controlled technology prior to beginning work.
  • Regular on-site attendance is a necessary function of this position.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:
  • Graduation from an optical technician training program.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit stand walk talk hear; use hands and fingers to handle and touch objects tools or controls to work in a production environment. Vision abilities required include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus to work. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Able to bend pull and lift to 15 pounds at times.
