Position Overview:

The Development Director is a strategic leader who drives the revenue that powers Black Men Teachs mission. Reporting to the Chief Advancement & Marketing Officer the Development Director designs and executes a comprehensive data-informed development plan that diversifies and grows support from foundations corporations civic organizations government sources and individual donors. This role turns revenue goals into a clear measurable roadmap using CRM data and financial modeling to forecast track and communicate progress. The Development Director supervises the Marketing and Communications Manager and the Program and Events Coordinator aligning storytelling events and donor engagement into one fundraising strategy. This position is ideal for a strategic thinker skilled relationship-builder and people leader who is passionate about educational equity and representation.

Core Responsibilities

Development Strategy & Revenue Planning (30%)

  • Lead the development and execution of an annual and multi-year development plan with clear revenue targets strategies timelines and metrics across all funding streams.
  • Build and maintain revenue forecasts gift pipelines and scenario models in the CRM and Excel/Google Sheets to guide decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Analyze giving trends donor retention and campaign performance and recommend adjustments to keep the organization on track to meet its goals.
  • Present regular revenue updates dashboards and strategic recommendations to the CAMO CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Partner with finance to align fundraising projections with the organizational budget and ensure accurate gift reconciliation and restricted-fund tracking.

Institutional Giving: Foundations Corporations Civic Organizations & Government (30%)

  • Identify cultivate solicit and steward a growing portfolio of foundation corporate civic organization and government funders.
  • Oversee the grant calendar including prospecting writing and submitting proposals and reports and ensure strong compliance with funder requirements.
  • Pursue and manage public funding opportunities at the local state and federal levels including applications budgets and reporting requirements.
  • Develop corporate partnership and sponsorship strategies including employee giving matching gifts volunteer engagement and cause-marketing opportunities.
  • Build relationships with civic faith fraternal and community organizations to expand BMTs base of support.

Individual Giving & Donor Cultivation (20%)

  • Design and lead a comprehensive individual giving program including major gifts mid-level and recurring donors annual appeals and peer-to-peer campaigns.
  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects and prepare BMT leaders and board members for cultivation and solicitation meetings.
  • Equip and support board members in their fundraising roles with tools training and strategic guidance.
  • Develop donor stewardship and recognition strategies that deepen engagement and increase retention and lifetime giving.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration (20%)

  • Supervise coach and support the Marketing and Communications Manager and the Program and Events Coordinator setting clear goals and fostering professional growth.
  • Align marketing communications and events with development priorities so campaigns stories and gatherings consistently drive donor engagement and revenue.
  • Oversee fundraising events and campaigns from strategy through post-event follow-up and return-on-investment analysis.
  • Establish development policies processes and CRM standards that keep data accurate gift processing efficient and reporting reliable.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather impact data and stories that strengthen proposals reports and donor communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 57 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • At least 2 years experience in a leadership supervisory role.
  • Proven track record of creating and executing development plans that meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Demonstrated success securing five- and six-figure gifts and grants from foundations corporations and individual donors.
  • Experience managing government grants and their compliance and reporting requirements (required).

Skills & Attributes

  • Expert-level mastery of donor database administration custom analytics dashboards and prospective gift pipeline management (required).
  • High proficiency utilizing Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel for financial modeling budget alignment and revenue forecasting.
  • Demonstrated adeptness with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office platforms.
  • Superb written and oral communication capabilities with emphasis on inspiring grant proposals and executive-level presentations.
  • Refined interpersonal and solicitation aptitude successfully engaging partners ranging from grassroots leaders to corporate chiefs and agency representatives.
  • Track record of uplifting guiding and expanding the capacity of staff members.
  • Superior organizational capacity to navigate competing deadlines and deliver results in a dynamic work atmosphere.
  • Constructive flexible and team-oriented approach to problem-solving.

  • The candidate is expected to attend conferences meetings and training sessions both virtually and in-person.

Work Environment

  • The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday. To support collaboration community building and teamwork Black Men Teach requires staff to work on-site three days per week Tuesday through Thursday. Mondays and Fridays are designated as remote workdays.
  • This position operates in a collaborative fast-paced hybrid work environment requiring frequent interaction with colleagues partners schools and community stakeholders. The role requires flexibility effective prioritization and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $. Final salary is determined by BMT based on years of experience educational background and level of expertise. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
