Custodian 2nd Shift

Job Summary: The custodian position is designed to clean and maintain the buildings and grounds of Westerly Public Schools ensuring a result that provides a safe attractive and sanitary environment for students staff and community members to use each day.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of assigned school facilities at all times.
• Perform comprehensive cleaning of classrooms corridors stairwells restrooms and other designated areas within Westerly Public Schools.
• May be required to perform the following tasks;
• Collect and dispose of rubbish shovel snow clean walks and grounds move furniture replace light bulbs clean sewer lines may sand and finish floors may spot-patch walls and woodwork.
• May paint as required and set up furniture for activities.
• May perform minor preventive maintenance inside and outside the building as directed.
• Secures building each evening if a second shift employee or according to summer/break schedules.
• Transport and deliver materials supplies equipment and furniture within and between district locations as assigned.
• Can be asked to open/work at other schools during this shift.

• Perform additional related duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of school facilities.

Qualifications:

• Experience:
  • Minimum of 2-years experience in a custodial capacity in the private or public sector or successful experience as a maintenance worker in a school system
  • Possess ability to speak and understand English basic reading comprehension math problem-solving/trouble-shooting and verbal communication skills as determined by standard assessments.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer technology including the ability to access and use email and complete required online training and professional development activities.
• Education:
  • High School Degree or equivalent.
• Certification:
  • Possesses and maintains a valid drivers license.
• Physical Requirements:
• Demonstrated ability to safely lift and carry materials weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
• Possesses strong manual dexterity to effectively operate cleaning equipment and perform required tasks.
• Capable of frequent bending stooping and reaching above shoulder level.
• Able to safely climb and descend stairs and ladders as part of daily responsibilities.
• Maintains the physical strength stamina and overall health necessary to perform moderately heavy manual labor on a consistent basis.
