Job Summary
Function: The Culinary Arts Paraprofessional supports students in the culinary arts program by ensuring students have access to high-quality hands-on learning experiences aligned with Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards and supports interdependent student-centered classrooms that promote discourse and collaboration. The paraprofessional receives instruction from the Culinary Instructors. The Culinary Arts Paraprofessional reports directly to the CTE Director with directives from the Assistant School Principal. Essential Functions:Responsible for assisting instructors during culinary laboratory activities and for supporting students as they practice culinary techniques food preparation and kitchen for reinforcing safety sanitation and professional workplace provide individual and small-group assistance under the direction of the for assisting with student supervision during classroom laboratory and work-based learning for assisting students during catering events competitions fundraisers and special support for student participation in SkillsUSA and other career and technical student support for students in work-based learning and community partnership activities as other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned and are consistent with this position.Critical Skills Experience and Knowledge:Demonstrates the ability to work in a culinary career and technical programDemonstrates strong customer service skills and the ability to interact patiently and positively with the public school staff parents/guardians and students. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with the public and strong communication skills orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructionsMinimum Required Qualifications:HS Diploma or GEDAbility to obtain a Teacher Assistant Certification per RIDE guidelinesAbility to work effectively with high school students and staff.Preferred Qualifications:Associate degree or industry training in Culinary Arts Hospitality or a related Food Handler or ServSafe Manager working in an educational or training supporting youth or workforce development of commercial kitchen operations food safety and sanitation drivers license and reliable transportation
