- Hours: 3:30 - 4:30 pm
Location: Primarily local employer worksites and Elma High School
Reports to: John Heley Director of Pathways Athletics and Activities
Summary:
The Work-Site Learning Coordinator supports high school students who are participating in employment opportunities while earning high school credit. The coordinator serves as a liaison between the school students and local employers to ensure students are having successful workplace experiences and meeting the expectations of both their employer and the school. This position requires someone who is comfortable working in the community building positive relationships with employers communicating with teenagers and helping students develop the skills and habits necessary to be successful and remain employable. The coordinator will regularly visit student worksites communicate with employers and students monitor student progress and provide support when challenges arise.
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State CTE Teacher Certificate with Worksite Learning Coordinator certification
- WSP/FBI background and fingerprint clearance (fee paid by the employee)
- Experience or demonstrated knowledge in work-based learning career-connected learning apprenticeships internships or workforce development.
- Existing relationships or demonstrated ability to develop relationships with local employers and businesses.
- Experience working with high school students and/or young adults.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with employers students families and school staff.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Understanding of workplace expectations and employability skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple student placements and employer relationships.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to local worksites as needed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with school policies and applicable student privacy requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coordinating or supervising high school work-based learning programs.
- Experience with registered apprenticeships pre-apprenticeships internships or youth employment programs.
- Knowledge of local labor-market needs and career pathways.
- Experience working with CTE programs career counseling workforce development or similar programs.
- Experience working directly with local businesses and community organizations.
- Knowledge of workplace safety expectations and youth employment requirements.
- Experience coaching students who may need additional support developing workplace skills.
Essential Responsibilities:
This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary and without notice. Depending upon individual assignments the teacher performs all or a combination of several of the following duties:
- Visit local employers and worksites where students are employed for high school credit.
- Meet regularly with employers to check on student performance attendance reliability workplace behavior and overall progress.
- Meet with students at their worksites or at school to provide coaching encouragement and support.
- Help students understand employer expectations and develop strong workplace habits.
- Assist students in developing employability skills including:

- Following directions
- Appropriate workplace attire and conduct
- Identify concerns early and work collaboratively with students employers and school staff to resolve them.
- Maintain regular communication with employers regarding student progress.
- Help students understand how their current employment experience connects to future careers apprenticeships postsecondary education and career opportunities.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with local businesses and community employers.
- Assist in identifying additional employment and work-based learning opportunities for students.
- Document employer contacts student check-ins concerns and progress as required by the school/program.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student and employer information.
- Support the schools work-based learning and career-connected learning goals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a relationship-builder who understands both teenagers and employers. This person should be comfortable walking into a local business having a professional conversation with an employer and then sitting down with a student to provide honest constructive feedback. The successful candidate will be proactive dependable approachable and able to help students understand that earning and keeping a job requires more than simply showing up. The coordinator should be able to identify small issues before they become employment-ending problems and help students develop the skills they need to be successful in the workplace.
