Criminal Justice Faculty Position (Open Rank, Non-tenure track)

The Department of Criminal Justice at High Point University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure faculty position. Rank is negotiable based on qualifications and experience with promotion opportunities available within the non-tenure-track faculty structure.

The position begins in August of 2027 and candidates with a Ph.D. in criminal justice/criminology and a J.D. will be given preference. Candidates with a Ph.D. in criminal justice/criminology or closely related field candidates with a J.D. and masters in criminal justice/criminology or closely related field and candidates with a J.D. and applicable experience will be considered.

The position requires the ability to cover coursework in law including courts and trials criminal law criminal evidence and mock trial. Qualifications to teach international and security related courses forensic courses violent crime and/or intro to the justice system are desired.

Duties include teaching research and performing departmental service as part of a close and vital faculty team. The University seeks applicants who are committed to education as an experiential and life-enhancing process. QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

• Ph.D. in criminal justice/criminology and a J.D. will be given preference; ABD welcome (degree must be in hand prior to official start date)
• Ph.D. in criminal justice/criminology or closely related field will be considered; ABD welcome (degree must be in hand prior to official start date)
• J.D. and masters in criminal justice/criminology or closely related field will be considered
• J.D. and applicable experience will be considered

Experience and Training

• Preference will be given to candidates whose specialties surround criminal law courts and trials criminal evidence and mock trial
• Ability to teach international and security related courses forensic courses violent crime or into to the justice system is preferred but not required

Knowledge Skills Ability:

• Knowledge of the above course subjects

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Teaching departmental service research and student mentorship. Appointment with a greater focus on teaching is possible with the likelihood of an increased teaching load.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Report to Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice the Dean of the School of the Douglas S. Witcher School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences and to the Provost of the University.
