Job Summary

- Develop implement and evaluate DOC training development informational and/or educational programs courses curricula training resources lesson plans materials and visual aids.
- Directly present Training Academy courses such as CEIT and BOTC including inmate supervision control tactics report writing case processing and relevant laws rules and regulations such as those pertaining to search and seizure.
- Train supervise and act as role-model on maintaining discipline and security within Correctional Institutions Probation and Parole District Offices and the community.
- Develop specific skill sets in staff preparing them to work effectively with inmates while enforcing all rules regulations and procedures affecting inmate discipline security and safety with emphasis on security safety and rehabilitation.
- Evaluate performance of Cadets during training; provide counseling provide feedback and make recommendations based on the performance of Cadets and staff.
- Present classroom training including using formal classroom instruction exercises handouts materials visual aids etc. for group or one-on-one instruction.
- Research evaluate and select materials handouts visual aids exercises etc. that will best promote learning including implementing evidence-based practices into curriculum.
- Evaluate course effectiveness and participate on committees that provide reviews and recommendations for policy updates; review the Academys Standard Operating Procedures and make recommendations for updates as necessary.
- May conduct staff personal and property searches on a daily basis to ensure safety and security of the Administration Building; train and demonstrate proper evidence handling to staff in performance of their regular duties.
- May have responsibility for budget grant and/or contract administration.
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Correctional Training Instructor
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- At least 19 and ½ years of age.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years experience inworking with offenders in a correctional facility and/or a community supervision unit with responsibility for security custody and rehabilitation of inmates.
- Two years experience inpresenting training or education courses using a variety of training methods such as lecture e-training structured exercises role play or group discussion as well as the use of training materials such as overheads PowerPoint handouts or videos.
- Two years experience in preparing and developing training or education courses which includes designing learning objectives curricula and materials.
- Possession of a valid Drivers License (not suspended revoked or cancelled or disqualified from driving).
Employees in a Correctional Officer series position will be eligible to retire under the provisions of HB363 if at the time of retirement they have completed twenty-five (25) years of pension creditable State services and with at least twenty (20) of those years of pension creditable service as a CO series classified position.
