Corporate Counsel Automation, Stores & Operations Legal

Amazon is seeking a regulatory counsel for a unique opportunity to help Amazon develop and deploy autonomous vehicle and robotics solutions for last mile delivery operations. This is a new program in its early stages: a multi-year investment with significant executive attention rapid growth and the opportunity to shape regulatory strategy from the ground up.

You will be the teams subject matter expert on the regulations governing autonomous vehicles and personal delivery devices including NHTSA regulations the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the growing patchwork of state and local AV and robotics laws. You will chart the regulatory strategy for these programs: advising on what regulatory frameworks exist and where theyre heading building compliance plans that enable the business to test and deploy across multiple jurisdictions and helping senior leaders make informed decisions about where and how to move forward. Working directly with engineering product safety and public policy teams you will translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance and help the business navigate a landscape that is evolving rapidly. The role focuses primarily on last-mile delivery but also works closely with teams deploying autonomous solutions across Amazons middle mile transportation networks.

Key job responsibilities
- Serve as the teams regulatory expert for autonomous vehicle and robotics programs with deep knowledge of NHTSA regulations FMVSA and state-specific AV and personal delivery device laws
Develop the regulatory strategy for the programs you support identifying requirements assessing risk and advising on the path to deployment across jurisdictions
- Build and maintain compliance frameworks that enable the business to move from testing through commercial deployment
- Advise engineering and product teams on how regulatory requirements apply to specific product design decisions testing protocols and deployment plans
- Monitor the evolving regulatory landscape and proactively advise the business on implications for current and planned programs
Support regulatory filings incident response and engagement with regulators in coordination with public policy
- Collaborate with the teams product counsel as well as attorneys across commercial transactions fleet legal middle mile privacy IP and litigation on cross-cutting issues

A day in the life
You will work on some of the most challenging and novel legal issues in the autonomous vehicle and robotics space. Your day might include advising engineers on regulatory requirements for a new vehicle feature negotiating a partnership agreement with an automotive technology provider analyzing new state legislation on autonomous vehicles or developing compliance frameworks for multi-state deployments. You will have direct impact on bringing innovative delivery solutions to customers while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance. This role offers significant autonomy executive visibility and the opportunity to shape legal strategy for emerging technologies.

About the team
This position is part of Amazons Worldwide Operations Legal team supporting last mile delivery. You will work closely with business leaders who are developing autonomous vehicles and robotics solutions that will transform how Amazon delivers to customers. The team values innovation customer obsession and practical problem-solving. You will collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice areas including product counsel regulatory commercial transactions and litigation. This is a high-growth area with significant investment and executive attention.

- 5 years of legal experience
- 5 years of post bar admission legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent

- 1 years of Product Safety & Compliance Law experience
- Experience advising on the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act NHTSA regulations or analogous product safety regimes

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
