NC State Dining provides campus wide food services to students staff and faculty on the North Carolina State University campus. NC State Dining operates 10 cafes 4 food courts and 6 dining halls 4 markets 1 restaurant vending a nutritional counseling service and a catering department. The department employs approximately 1000 temporary and student employees and approximately 180 permanent EPS and SHRA employees.

In this role you wont just be prepping foodyoull be a vital part of the campus experience ensuring our community enjoys fresh delicious and safely prepared meals every day.
As a Cook you will handle everything from recipe execution to leading station workflows. Your daily duties will include:
- Master the Menu: Execute standard and routine recipes with precision to fulfill daily menus and keep our food stations stocked and looking great.
- Inventory & Logistics: Requisition the products you need and help check in store and move food supplies to keep production running smoothly.
- Teamwork & Flow: Partner with front-of-house staff to coordinate a seamless flow of food from the kitchen to our guests keeping track of food levels for timely service.
- Tech & Data: Step up in the absence of a supervising chef by entering necessary data into our Netmenu food production system.
- Kitchen Cleanliness: Maintain top-tier sanitation by cleaning utensils workstations tables shelves and equipmentand help delegate cleaning tasks to the back-of-house team.
- Lead by Example: Ensure daily prep lists are completed and products are properly rotated. Youll also help assign tasks and direct the efforts of food service technicians temporary staff and student employees.
Your ability to follow instructions manage time effectively and communicate clearly with teammates and supervisors will be key to your success. This role requires physical stamina including the ability to lift up to 60 pounds work in hot and cold conditions and safely handle sharp tools and hot surfaces (all with our without reasonable accommodations).

- Understand the goals and culture of the organization and understand how employees work activities teamwork and customer service impact clients. Work with your supervisor and colleagues to understand these goals and the culture.
- Adhere to all University policies procedures and regulations and Division standard operating practices and protocols.
- Due to operational needs of the NC State Dining department an employee may be assigned to work in any NC State Dining department including but not limited to catering and special events.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure NC State Dining business needs are met.
Qualifications:
Minimum Experience/Education:
- Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
- Some positions may require certification by the Department of Correction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic culinary and knife skills including an understanding of culinary terms and practical application.
- Culinary experience in fine dining fast casual multi-unit restaurants or college/university settings.
- Previous team leadership experience.
- Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn and use email.
- Allergen awareness and training.
Required License or Certification:
ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
- Valid NC Drivers License required: No.
- Commercial Drivers License Required: No.
