Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the oversight of theConstruction SupervisortheConstruction Technician-I performs entry-level labor and project work.The role requires basicknowledge of fiber opticcopper and arielcabling and operations of industrial equipment (vibratory plowtrencher digging equipment and industrial pneumatic bore).Work tasks are laborious and requiretheuse of handtools (shovels drills hammersetc.).In support of the Technician-II and Leads this roleassistswithplacementand removal ofcable performs splicesandmaintainsorrepairs cablesin accordance withconstruction plans and work orders.Requires use and wearofappropriate personalprotective equipment (PPE). Frequenttravelfor construction projectsis a requirement for success in this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESRESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

Perform in a support role and placedirect buried cabling (fiber copper) into the ground/earth.

a. Perform earthwork labor with various hand tools and industry related equipment (vibratory plow trencher diggingequipmentindustrialpneumatic bore).

b. Performmaintenance of buried cable performingtestsand repairs (removals replacement and splicing).

c. Restore all disturbed surfaces including concrete and pavement surfaces to acceptable conditions.

d. As assigned operates(when supervised) various heavy equipment as needed (plows backhoes trailer etc.).

e. Mountsdemarcation devices and protectors at customer premises.

f. Assistswiththe maintenance of construction equipment trailers and vehicles.


Performs related construction tasks as .


Aerial Cabling:

a. Assistswith installationandremoval ofaerialcableand polelines.

b. Assistswith inspection replacement or repairof aerialcable and poles.

c. elect and attachappropriatehardwareinstallor reinstallin accordance withproject work order.


CableSplicing:

a. Work with copperandfiber optic cablesinaccordance withconstruction plans and drawings(new construction).


Maintenance and Repairswith Copper and Fiber Optic cabling:

a. Assistwithpreventativemaintenance onproject worksite(s)cables.

b. Performcabletests totroubleshoot issues andidentifydefectivecomponentsorsections.

c. Repair orremove andreplacedefective cablesection or relatedcomponent(s).

d. Remove obsolete cable as appropriate.


Mount demarcation devices and systemprotectorsat assigned project work locations (customers property field work site companys facility).


AssistwithData Centerframes tip cables and fiber distribution frames and cables as necessary.


Operate daily a computer system and software programs which include butarenot limited to performing documentation of time entries expense reports material usage documentation review credit card statements and process fiber testing reports (from test meters).

a. Other computer programs operateddailyincludingmapping software MS Teams and Virtualtraining(webinars videos).


Maintain and organize department files related to current / completed jobs and receipts.


Perform data entry into Excel denoting cable footages reel numbers and other materials used.


Schedule meetings with customers contractors and other utilities to go over plans for jobs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION):(A combination of demonstrable years experience and applicable alternative training(s) may be considered in lieu of the following qualifications).

1. Successful completion ofa grade-12 high school diploma program equivalentGED type of secondary education certificate / diploma.

2. A minimum of one (1)yearofsuccessfulworkexperienceperformingconstruction work and operating mechanical/pneumatic equipment.

3. A valid state-issued and insurable drivers license.

Preferred: Completion of one or more of the following certifications:

Successful completion of Technical School a 2-year / associate degree (in Electronics Telecommunications and/or Construction)
Class A CDL
TowerCertification PoleCertification

PHYSICAL DEMANDSANDWORKING CONDITIONS:

This role performs assigned work duties within a general office environmentand outside. Employeesmay beexposed to changingweather conditions oroccasionallycontaminants.Other functions and demands include the following:

1. Standsand walks while performing assigned work on project work sites often in outdoor environmentsfor up to9hours/day orlonger depending on the demands of the job.

2. Frequentlyworksin outdoorsettingsandisnotnecessarilyprotected from weather conditions.

3. Frequent use of technology computers deviceshand tools powertoolsand industrial equipment(Repetitive hand motion andphysical exertion is).

4. This role may be assignedtowork requiringtravel which can reach up to75% of the role schedule.

5. Performs functions that present physical hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts moving vehicles electrical currentintense vibrations high pitched noise exposuresworking on scaffolding / ladders and high places working in small areas (crawl spaces trenches etc.) and/or exposure to chemicals in work setting.

6. Hearing listening talking standing walking bending stooping reaching kneeling squatting balancing pushing/pulling and climbing stairs are all expectations of this role although some of these functions may be more seldom performed than others.

7. Must be able to lifta minimum of100pounds at times.

8. Must follow all safety policies /procedures andalways useappropriate personalprotective equipment (PPE).

9. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations facilities.
