Job Summary
The CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS TESTING INTERN I conducts field and laboratory testing of concrete masonry soil asphalt and aggregates. Performs tasks/assignments designed to develop knowledge and abilities requiring application of standard techniques procedures and criteria in carrying out tasks. Using prescribed methods performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment under the supervision of a lab manager or senior testing technician. Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations adjusts and correlates data recognizes discrepancies in results and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
- Project research and site investigation
- Performs sampling or testing as directed.
- Assists other field and/or laboratory personnel
- Transports equipment specimen samples or documents to field personnel laboratory clients or other offices.
- Cleans equipment vehicles and work areas
- Performs other related duties as required
Requirements
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma and BS degree in progress in a science or related field. The ideal candidate will have completed two years towards their BS degree.
- Familiar with computer software programs including Adobe Acrobat Microsoft Word Outlook and Excel
- Valid Drivers License - Must be insurable by fleet insurer; driving history will be reviewed by agent and underwriter
- Good verbal communication skills; ability to communicate in English.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with OSHA guidelines and directives in conjunction with the ADA FMLA and other federal state and local standards including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular punctual attendance consistent with the ADA FMLA and other federal state and local standards.
- Regularly spend long hours standing and using equipment in hot and cold outdoor conditions.
- Regularly travel to work sites.
- Regularly work on repetitive tasks.
- Regularly use hands and fingers to handle control or feel objects.
- Regularly hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
- Regularly see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
- Regularly understand the speech of another person.
- Frequently bend to perform test procedures.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to talk listen and speak clearly in person and on telephone so listeners can understand
- Must be able to withstand regular exposure to outdoor worksite weather conditions that may be wet and/or humid environments with extreme cold and/or heat; sites may be moderate to moderately loud
- May be required to drive long distances daily
