Job Summary
General Purpose: The Construction Manager is a key member of the project team responsible for the day-to-day on-site oversight of heavy industrial construction projects. This role ensures projects are executed safely on schedule within budget and in accordance with quality standards. The Construction Manager works closely with the project team to drive results in safety quality productivity and profitability.
Essential Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Project Delivery. Exemplify and promote the companys values core competencies and Talent Advantaged Roadmap.
Project Leadership and Oversight:
- Ensure all construction activities are performed in accordance with the companys safety policies and procedures.
- Direct and supervise field personnel and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications schedules and budgets.
- Monitor project progress financial performance and adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate and timely communication regarding project activities and status.
- Prepare and present monthly cost forecasts and earned value reports during project review meetings.
- Represent the company at customer progress meetings for assigned projects.
- Conduct regular project reviews to identify and address issues that may impact schedules or project objectives.
- Ensure project standards processes and procedures are consistently followed.
Team and Site Management:
- Ensure all team members are properly trained in safety procedures and prepared to perform assigned work.
- Lead mentor and develop the on-site construction team while fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
- Review project schedules and ensure equipment and manpower requirements are accurate and up to date.
- Develop and coordinate construction execution plans including manpower equipment material and sequencing requirements.
- Resolve field challenges and conflicts serving as the primary escalation point for on-site personnel.
- Approve workforce overtime as necessary to support project objectives.
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Identify assess and mitigate project risks including commercial contractual technical operational and safety-related risks.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable industry regulations codes safety requirements and environmental standards.
- Champion McCarls Safety and Quality culture by emphasizing proactive planning risk reduction and effective change management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction leadership construction management and project team roles with a proven track record of successfully delivering projects in heavy industrial sectors (e.g. Chemical Power Oil & Gas Metals Environmental).
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical Civil Chemical Electrical or related field) or Construction Management preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-million-dollar construction project budgets.
- Strong understanding of industrial processes complex piping systems major equipment and various construction materials.
- Experience managing projects throughout the full project lifecycle from engineering and procurement through construction and startup.
- Experience managing subcontractors vendors and off-site fabrication activities.
- Proficiency with project management software financial systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms.
- Strong leadership problem-solving negotiation and decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage all organizational levels and external clients.
Physical Requirements: Will regularly sit use hands/fingers and reach with hands/arms. Will frequently stand talk/hear and perform repetitive motions. Will occasionally walk grasp climb/balance bend/stoop/kneel/squat/crawl. Lift/carry up to 20 lbs. Push/pull up to 10 lbs. Near and far vision required. Regular travel to project sites client offices and other locations is required.
Work Environment: Will regularly work in an office environment with standard lighting ambient temperatures and traditional office equipment. Will frequently work in industrial facilities construction sites and fabrication shops with varying noise levels and environmental conditions. Employees must use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by industry standards and company safety policies. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
