What You Can Expect Working in the Construction Estimator Position

The Construction Estimator (Project Estimator II) independently develops cost estimates and proposals for projects of moderate to high complexity. A typical day involves reviewing technical documentation coordinating with internal departments to resolve scope questions and developing complete cost estimates for proposal submission. This role contributes to maintaining estimating consistency and accuracy across projects while supporting internal process improvements. The Construction Estimator (Project Estimator II) works collaboratively with Sales Engineering Manufacturing and project stakeholders throughout the proposal development process.

Responsibilities

Prepare complete estimates for complex projects with minimal supervision.

Interpret drawings specifications and scope documentation.

Coordinate with Sales Engineering and Manufacturing to clarify scope.

Develop proposal clarifications risk notes and documentation.

Participate in internal bid reviews and lessons-learned discussions.

Mentor Junior and Estimator I staff on estimating methods.

Identify opportunities for process improvements and estimating efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Engineering Construction Management or related technical field OR equivalent work experience

4-7 years in estimating construction drafting or related technical work

Strong analytical and cost modeling skills.

Ability to independently manage multiple complex estimates.

Strong communication and cross-department coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency with ProEst or other estimating systems.

Experience in industrial or government contracting environments.

Experience mentoring junior estimating staff.
