Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The Compliance Associate will have the responsibility to develop implement and maintain the strategic and tactical components of Risk Management which ensures John Knox Village remains in regulatory and accreditation compliance. Compliance manager will support associates vendors contractors and other stakeholders to be knowledgeable on relevant requirements and aware of systems for reporting unethical or questionable practices. Supportive of the Villages mission values and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Strategic

  • Provides oversight and administration of the Corporate Compliance Program and business unit-specific compliance plans to remain in conformance with industry standards and guidelines.
  • Promotes and communicates the rationale for regulatory compliance and ethical conduct to all stakeholders.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the program and adapts existing programming and best practices according to changes in regulations and standards.
  • Develops programs which creates awareness and understanding of ethical principles consistent with the values and mission of John Knox Village and its affiliated entities.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative spirit (PRIDE) when addressing difficult ambiguous and complex issues.

Tactical

  • Serve as the Compliance Officer and HIPAA Privacy Officer for John Knox Village. Collaborates with the System Security Officer on HITECH (e-Security) compliance programming risk assessments controls development and execution.
  • Manage and execute the standards and duties of the Compliance Officer set forth in Board resolutions and policy.
  • Develop guidelines for conduct and compliance which includes prohibited conduct how it will be monitored and confidential reporting mechanisms to detect and prevent adverse outcomes due to non-compliance.
  • Communicates the Compliance Program non-retaliation policy and Code of Conduct through training programs newsletters memos and other appropriate means including the compliance HELPLINE.
  • Prepares the submission of routine compliance program monitoring/auditing training investigation summaries plans of corrective action policy changes and related reports to the CEO leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding suspected breaches of compliance guidelines and collaborates with relevant parties to address violations in accordance with Village policy.
  • Assists compliance coordinators and other leadership staff to improve compliance accreditation internal monitoring and training processes/systems to identify and prevent fraudulent or abusive business practices under law.
  • Manages external reimbursement and clinical audits with qualified consultants and subject matter experts.
  • Maintains required professional certifications and licenses.
  • Facilitates cooperation with federal and state agencies when reporting conducting investigations or compliance review of the organizations policies and procedures or practices. Make cost-effective use of legal resources when necessary in collaboration with director of risk management.
  • Participate in Leadership Compliance team Safety Quality Assurance-Performance Improvement (QAPI) team and committee meetings to evaluate problems trends and monitor progress of programs.
  • Report Compliance activities to CEO and or assigned Board Committees at least quarterly and to the full Board according to policy.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in health sciences or applicable business-related field. MHA desirable.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or must be able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Valid drivers license and proof of auto insurance (required on date of hire)

Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):

  • Knowledge of the relevant healthcare laws and regulations related to risk management and workers compensation.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA HITECH and e-security regulations
  • Demonstrates sound decision-making skills and be able to function independently to gather necessary data from various sources for problem solving.
  • Ability to compute mathematical/statistical calculations.
  • Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draws valid conclusions and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete data.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients and customers and the general public.
  • Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook.

Experience:

  • Must have 5 years of professional healthcare compliance (or related field) experience.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent travel by personal vehicle to locations both on and off campus is required.
  • Work is primarily in an environmentally controlled office setting.
  • All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
