Salary: Approximately $75000$85000 depending on experience
Schedule: MondayFriday preferably 5:00 a.m.2:30 p.m. A 6:00 a.m. start may be considered. Occasional Saturday mornings required.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Compactor Shop Supervisor to lead daily operations for a team of approximately 11 employees repairing and fabricating industrial waste compaction equipment. This role combines production leadership welding and fabrication knowledge employee development and administrative coordination.
The position spends approximately 70% of its time on the shop floor and 30% on office responsibilities. Candidates with strong heavy fabrication and manufacturing leadership experience are encouraged to apply. Previous compactor experience is preferred but not required; training on equipment and internal processes will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily shop operations assign work and maintain production schedules.
- Lead and coach shop employees working closely with the team lead.
- Review work orders and completed repairs for quality accuracy and consistency.
- Promote safe working practices and enforce shop safety procedures.
- Identify employee training needs and support technical skill development.
- Coordinate equipment repairs and fabrication work with management and support staff.
- Use business systems and email to track work review equipment information and respond to inquiries.
- Support customer communication by phone email virtual meetings and occasionally in person.
- Monitor productivity resolve operational issues and recommend improvements.
- Participate in hiring performance evaluations and employee management.
- Provide occasional Saturday coverage in coordination with the shop manager.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of hands-on welding and fabrication shop experience.
- At least one year of supervisory or progressively responsible team lead experience.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or production shop environment.
- Demonstrated welding ability and understanding of fabrication processes.
- Ability to lead approximately 11 employees and manage daily production priorities.
- Computer literacy including email and the ability to learn business software.
- Strong organizational communication and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of safe shop practices and ability to enforce safety procedures.
- Availability to work on-site with an early morning start and occasional Saturday hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience repairing compactors or similar industrial equipment.
- Heavy fabrication experience involving large steel components.
- Background in structural steel trailer manufacturing or pressure vessel fabrication.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1 welding standards.
- Maintenance experience involving hydraulics and electrical troubleshooting.
- Understanding of single-phase and three-phase electrical systems and use of electrical meters.
- Welding certification.
- Experience managing work orders production tracking or customer inquiries through business software.
