Commercial HVAC Technician
Job Summary
MalaceHR is seeking an experienced Senior Maintenance Technician to support a commercial facility portfolio in Reno NV. This is a hands-on maintenance role with a strong focus on commercial HVAC systems troubleshooting building automation systems and overall facility operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with commercial HVAC equipment and be comfortable assessing system issues identifying root causes and completing or coordinating repairs. The portfolio includes multiple HVAC unit houses so strong mechanical troubleshooting skills are highly valued.
- Operate troubleshoot maintain and repair commercial HVAC systems and associated equipment.
- Perform assessments of HVAC and building systems to identify performance issues failures and needed repairs.
- Troubleshoot mechanical electrical and control-related HVAC problems.
- Monitor and operate building automation systems (BAS).
- Work with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and related HVAC controls.
- Perform preventive predictive planned and corrective maintenance on building equipment.
- Conduct routine equipment rounds and inspections.
- Respond to service requests and complete repairs in a timely manner.
- Support maintenance of boilers chillers exhaust fans pumps and other mechanical systems as applicable.
- Perform general maintenance related to plumbing electrical structural and building systems.
- Evaluate equipment performance and recommend repairs or operational improvements.
- Assist with improving preventive maintenance procedures schedules work instructions and SOPs.
- Maintain accurate work-order maintenance and service documentation.
- Coordinate with contractors and outside service providers when specialized repairs are required.
- Follow all safety procedures and proper handling requirements for tools equipment and hazardous materials.
- Participate in emergency response and safety training.
- Participate in the rotating after-hours on-call schedule once fully trained.
- 5 years of hands-on HVAC facility maintenance or related commercial building experience preferred.
- Experience working with commercial HVAC systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Experience maintaining or repairing equipment such as:
- Rooftop units
- Air-handling equipment
- Exhaust fans
- Boilers
- Chillers
- Pumps and associated mechanical equipment
- General understanding of HVAC electrical components and controls.
- Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS).
- Familiarity with variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance and diagnose equipment problems.
- Ability to work independently while also supporting a broader facilities team.
- Strong communication organization and customer-service skills.
- Ability to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
- Technical certifications related to HVAC electrical mechanical systems or facilities maintenance.
- EPA 608 certification.
- Experience with commercial office buildings or similar large facilities.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Experience developing or improving preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience troubleshooting BAS-controlled HVAC equipment.
- Previous experience with emergency response procedures and facility safety programs.
