Job Summary

DPP is seeking a COBOLDeveloper for an opportunity with our client in the healthcare insurance industry.

Work location: Hybrid in Columbia SC
Duration: 11 months
Schedule: Onsite Tues Wed Thurs and as needed
Terms: W2 Contract

Position Description:
  • Join a team that supports mission-critical healthcare claims processing applications and related business functions.
  • Analyze business requirements design and implement solutions and support critical healthcare claims processing applications.
  • Create and modify COBOL programs JCL processes DB2 queries and CICS transactions to implement new functionality resolve production issues and support ongoing business initiatives.
  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule is required after completion of the onboarding period.
  • The rotation consists of approximately one week of coverage every 8-12 weeks.
  • Developers serving as the primary on-call resource are supported by experienced application subject matter experts who also participate in the rotation ensuring access to system expertise when troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Occasional overtime evening or weekend work may be required to support production issues implementations or business needs.
Required Education:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or other job-related degree;
  • OR 4 years of job-related work experience;
  • OR 2 years of job-related experience plus an Associates degree in Computer Science Information Technology or other job-related degree.
Required Work Experience:
  • 4 years of application development systems testing or other job-related experience.
Required Technologies:
  • COBOL (batch and online application development)
  • JCL (Job Control Language) (batch processing job scheduling and restart/recovery)
  • DB2 (SQL development database access and performance tuning)
  • CICS (online transaction processing and support)
Soft Skills:
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills Strong Communication Skills (Verbal and Written) Adaptability Intellectual Curiosity and Continuous Learning Collaboration Ownership and Accountability Attention to Detail
Preferred Qualifications:
  • IMS (database and transaction processing)
  • IBM MQ (MQ Series) (application messaging and integration)
  • Experience with VS Code GitHub GitHub Copilot Zowe Git-based source control and AI-assisted development workflows.
  • Healthcare payer experience particularly claims adjudication eligibility benefits pricing provider or pharmacy systems.
