Job Summary
About the Role:
The CNC Supervisor also commonly searched as CNC Machine Shop Supervisor Machining Supervisor CNC Production Supervisor and Manufacturing Supervisor leads CNC machining operations within an industrial manufacturing environment in the Birmingham Alabama area. This position is responsible for supervising machinists coordinating workflow maintaining production schedules improving quality and productivity and supporting safe and efficient machining operations. The ideal candidate combines hands-on CNC machining knowledge with strong leadership troubleshooting scheduling and continuous improvement experience.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise CNC machinists machine operators and production personnel to achieve daily safety quality delivery and productivity objectives.
- Plan and coordinate machining schedules labor assignments machine utilization tooling requirements and production priorities.
- Monitor CNC machining operations and troubleshoot production tooling setup programming dimensional and equipment issues.
- Ensure manufactured components meet engineering drawings tolerances specifications and established quality requirements.
- Coach and develop machinists in machine setup tooling blueprint interpretation measurement techniques and safe operating practices.
- Track production output scrap downtime efficiency rework and other key manufacturing performance indicators.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and equipment repairs with maintenance personnel to minimize machine downtime.
- Support continuous improvement lean manufacturing 5S standard work process optimization and waste reduction initiatives.
- Enforce OSHA requirements machine guarding standards PPE requirements lockout/tagout procedures and facility safety policies.
Qualifications:
- Several years of CNC machining machining operations or precision manufacturing experience.
- Previous experience leading or supervising machinists machine operators or manufacturing employees.
- Strong understanding of CNC equipment machine setup tooling feeds and speeds machining processes and production workflow.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints engineering drawings GD&T specifications and dimensional tolerances.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers micrometers gauges and indicators.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills within a production machining environment.
- Strong leadership scheduling communication coaching and employee development capabilities.
- Working knowledge of workplace safety quality systems preventive maintenance and manufacturing performance metrics.
Desired Qualifications:
- Technical degree machining certificate manufacturing technology education or equivalent apprenticeship experience.
- Experience with CNC programming G-code CAM software or machining process development.
- Lean manufacturing Six Sigma 5S Kaizen or continuous improvement experience.
- Experience supervising machining operations in heavy industrial metal products fabricated products or high-volume manufacturing.
