Job Summary
CNC Programmer/Set up Tech
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly non-exempt
GENERAL:
Responsible for developing CNC programs and insuring effective new job startups to meet the needs of manufacturing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge Skills Abilities):
Must have two year technical degree toward engineering CNC programming or machining disciplines plus at least three years working in a lathe or mill metal cutting machining years progressive experience in advanced CNC machining and techniques may substitute for the degree have a minimum of three years working as a CNC programmer with at least one year experience working with be competent in the use of Microsoft Office programs MasterCAM and MRP software.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Create efficient and accurate programs for every CNC machine (multi-axis lathes and mills with live tooling etc.) using CAM software or manually.
- Insure effective new job startups and achievement of quoted productivity and quality
- Analyze programming and machining problems to determine root cause and recommend corrective action.
- Lead implementation of state-of-the-art metal removal technology.
- Develop setup sheets and tooling layouts as required by manufacturing.
- Recommend substitute materials and/or material processing while meeting design objectives of components in the most cost effective manner.
- Initiate and support continuous improvement for cost reduction initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to sit for several hours at a time.
- Must be able to climb stairs occasionally.
- Must be able to operate office equipment computer printers copiers etc. which includes all physical abilities required for data input.
- Must be able to lift and transport tooling or other objects weighing 40lbs. periodically throughout the day.
- Must be able to walk throughout plant for several hours a day.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to communicate effectively by both written and oral means.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal daily supervision.
- Must be able to understand and reliably carry out extensive and detailed process instructions.
- Must be able to comprehend complex CAM machine G-code and CAD information to effectively troubleshoot problems and implement improvements.
