Job Summary

Position Overview


We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our Behavioral Health/Psychiatric Unit. The CNA will provide direct patient care and support to patients experiencing a variety of behavioral health and psychiatric conditions while working closely with nurses and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills patience professionalism and the ability to maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide basic patient care and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing grooming dressing toileting and feeding.
  • Assist patients with ambulation mobility positioning and transfers as appropriate.
  • Monitor and report changes in patients physical emotional and behavioral conditions to the nursing staff.
  • Maintain a safe clean and therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Assist with patient observation and safety monitoring according to unit protocols.
  • Support patients with daily routines and therapeutic activities under the direction of nursing and behavioral health staff.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with patients families nurses and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain patient privacy dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate documentation and reporting patient observations as required.
  • Follow hospital policies behavioral health protocols infection-control procedures and patient-safety standards.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral changes and escalate concerns to the appropriate clinical staff.
  • Perform other CNA duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Current CNA certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous CNA experience in a hospital behavioral health psychiatric or acute-care setting preferred.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association preferred/required based on facility requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients experiencing behavioral or psychiatric challenges.
  • Ability to remain calm professional and patient in potentially stressful situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
