CMRL Laboratory Technician

Job Description

The Collaborative Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory (CMRL) in the Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) department within the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) has an opening for a Laboratory Technician. The CMRL is a 2600 gsf laboratory shared among faculty clinical residents and graduate students in all departments of VMCVM to conduct clinical veterinary research in a collaborative environment.
The technician will perform wet lab work and provide technical guidance and training for nucleic acid extraction real-time and conventional PCR cell culture ELISA flow cytometry animal experiments etc. This role will support diverse research projects. The technician will also help oversee inventory and supply management coordinate routine equipment maintenance and assist with ordering and receiving supplies. The position will report to the Lab Manager Michelle Todd and will interact with RGS office personnel as needed. The position may also provide opportunities to contribute to research publications.
The ideal candidate will provide a welcoming environment for lab users promote collaboration manage multiple projects efficiently and demonstrate a teachable attitude willing to learn new lab methodologies.

Required Qualifications

-BS in Life Sciences
-Experience in a laboratory environment
-Teamwork: Ability to work well with others and facilitate collaboration
-Initiative: Working independently with attention to detail and good time management
-Teachability: An interest in learning new techniques and taking on new projects

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience with laboratory techniques
-Proficient in PCR and ELISA
-Experience with maintenance of laboratory equipment
-Experience working with diverse faculty and graduate students
-Good interpersonal and time-management skills
-Good aseptic technique
