About The University of Texas at El Paso: The Department: The department offers a Bachelor of Social Work degree and a Master of Social Work degree which began in Summer 2010. The Council of Social Work Education accredits the Department of Social Works BSW and MSW programs. Both the BSW and MSW Programs are the only social work programs in the nation with the Social Work in the Border Region specialization. The Department has about 120 undergraduate pre-social work majors 80 enrolled in the BSW Program and over 120 MSW students. The Department has four tenure-track positions and six full-time clinical faculty including the present position being recruited. The student body is highly diverse comprises a Hispanic bilingual majority and includes a significant number of first-generation and international students. The highly diverse departmental faculty is active in research programs in behavioral health child welfare migrants and refugees intimate partner violence aging and health disparities. Faculty and students engage in teaching research and service incorporating Boyers Model of the scholarship of discovery integration application/engagement and teaching and learning all related to the applied health sciences ( The Colleges facilities and programs are designed to promote interprofessional teaching learning research and community and global engagement initiatives. The College of Health Sciences enjoys a strong and collaborative relationship with a range of local national and global community partners. Graduate and undergraduate students participate actively with clinical and research faculty mentors in conducting a variety of projects relevant to addressing health inequities and improving quality of life in the Paso del Norte region and beyond. Job Description: The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Department of Social Work in the College of Health Sciences invites applications for a 9-month appointment with potential for summer teaching. Job responsibilities include demonstrating excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate chosen for this position will serve as the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Field Education Coordinator and a Clinical Instructor. The selected candidate will be responsible for facilitating and overseeing the internship process for undergraduate students with local field agencies. They will be responsible for serving as liaisons between students and local agency supervisors and for administering integrated field seminar classes. He/she will be supervised by report to and work closely with the Field Education Director to ensure appropriate high-quality BSW student placements and compliance with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation standards for the BSW Program. The BSW Field Education Coordinator can expect to provide leadership in the development implementation and oversight of the Undergraduate Field Education Program including Field Seminar course instruction. Requirements: Qualifications: (1) Master of Social Work degree; (2) Evidence of or the potential for teaching excellence in a higher education institution; (3) At least 2 years of experience in supervising social work students in field education and the potential to deliver a program of field instruction and teaching in a bi-national bi-cultural environment; (4) Minimum of 5 years post-masters practice experience in social work with at least 2 years of practice within a bi-national bi-cultural setting; (5) Texas licensed or license-eligible as an LMSW or LCSW; (6) History of participation in professional organizations; (7) A strong record of community outreach to human service agencies; (8) Ability to work effectively with faculty staff and students from diverse ethnic cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds (9) Record of or potential to engage in scholarly activity; (10) Strong communication organizational interpersonal problem-solving and practice skills; (11) Ability to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); (12) Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g. Microsoft Office e-mail databases); (13) Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers; (14) History of or potential for service activities in the department college university professional organizations and the community; (15) Able to travel as needed including own local transportation and possessing a current drivers license.
