Job Summary
The Classroom Instructional Assistant supports the classroom teacher in creating a safe engaging and developmentally appropriate learning environment for students. This role involves collaborating closely with the teacher to implement instructional activities support individual and small-group learning manage classroom routines and promote social-emotional development all in alignment with school and district expectations.
- Support students and teachers in the general education or subject-specific classroom.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce skills and content introduced by the classroom teacher.
- Supervise students during classroom activities transitions and assigned duties.
- Maintain ethical standards and uphold student confidentiality.
- Participate in relevant training programs and staff meetings.
- Assist the teacher with daily instruction and supervision of students.
- Reinforce learning in literacy numeracy and foundational skills.
- Support students in adhering to classroom routines and expectations.
- Facilitate learning centers small group tasks and classroom transitions.
- Prepare instructional materials classroom displays and resources.
- Monitor and document student progress and behavior under teacher direction.
- Implement IEP or 504 accommodations as directed by the teacher or special education staff.
- Supervise students during recess lunch arrival and dismissal.
- Foster an inclusive nurturing environment that supports student growth.
- Model respectful communication and support social-emotional development.
- Communicate professionally with students staff and families.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support classroom and school operations.
Job Requirements:
- Fingerprint clearance
- TB clearance
- Current CPR certification
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience supporting students in a school environment (small groups and one-on-one)
- Positive attitude and collaborative work ethic
- Teaching experience preferred particularly with co-teaching or instructional support
- Ability to work seated at a desk or in meetings
- Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods
- Capability to walk moderate distances and perform tasks that require full range of motion (e.g. bending kneeling sitting on floor)
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 lbs
- Sufficient vision to read and observe students
- Sufficient hearing and speech for normal conversation and instruction
