Job Summary / Purpose
The Senior / Senior Lead CivilStructural Design Engineer provides highlevel technical leadership within a commercial nuclear power plant environment resolving complex issues involving civil structural piping and environmental engineering. This position serves as a primary technical interface between Engineering Maintenance and Operations ensuring nuclear safety regulatory compliance structural integrity and longterm configuration control of safetyrelated and nonsafetyrelated plant systems.
Senior and Senior Lead candidates are expected to demonstrate deep technical proficiency strong familiarity with nuclear plant processes and the ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering efforts supporting plant reliability design basis maintenance outage execution and emergent issue resolution.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Leads and supports Maintenance Operations and site organizations in resolving complex issues involving nuclear plant civil structures safetyrelated components piping systems environmental conditions and equipment reliability.
Applies advanced civil structural and environmental engineering principles to analyze reinforced concrete steel structures seismic considerations soilstructure interaction safetyrelated supports drainage systems and other environmental factors impacting nuclear plant structural integrity.
Maintains required training and supports Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities consistent with nuclear emergency planning requirements.
Provides seniorlevel guidance for costeffective structural and piping maintenance activities that comply with nuclear regulatory requirements licensing bases and plant procedures.
Authors reviews and approves engineering changesincluding civil/structural modifications piping analyses temporary supports environmental corrective actions and maintenance activitiesensuring compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B the plants licensing basis ASME and AISC code and configuration control procedures.
Leads project planning and prioritization efforts for major design modifications capital projects and longterm structural improvements within a nuclear operating environment.
Implements corrective actions and leads engineering analysis for issues involving design basis discrepancies degraded structural conditions or equipment reliability events.
Develops highquality engineering deliverables (technical evaluations structural calculations piping analyses environmental assessments design packages) following nuclear codes industry standards and station procedures.
Serves as a senior technical representative on outage engineering teams supporting refueling outages forced outages and critical online system evolutions with civil/structural expertise.
Maintains all training and qualifications required for nuclear design engineering and provides mentorship to junior personnel on nuclear plant processes regulatory expectations and technical fundamentals.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required
B.S. Degree in Civil Mechanical Environmental Engineering or other engineering degree generally associated with power plant operations in the field of civil and structural design environmental compliance or equivalent work experience.
Minimum experience required
Sr. Engineer: 45 years experience in nuclear design operations or equivalent
Sr. Lead: 6 years experience in nuclear design operations or equivalent depending on evaluation of past positions
Preferred Experience
Strong preference for candidates with 10 years of civil structural or piping engineering experience in nuclear or highly regulated power/industrial environments.
