Civil Engineering Intern

As a member of a project team theCivilEngineeringInternwill perform engineering and design duties which require application of engineering are closely supervised and designed to further develop employees job knowledge and abilities.

Employee may be called upon to perform any orall ofthe following functions:

• Work with a project team to create ormodifyall civil and structural design documents and drawings for a project under direct supervision.

• Perform engineering support tasks such as wind load calculations and structural analysis with minimal supervision.

• Learn and apply engineering standards including NESC IEEE ANSI AISC and ACI.

• Learn andproperly usethe document management system.

• Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices.

• Spend time at job sites to gain hands-on knowledge andadditionaltraining in substation construction and design.

• Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work.

• Bring potential project-related problems andpossible solutionsto the attention of theresponsible party.

• Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.

• Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

• Take ownership of your work double-check calculations and drawings beforesubmitting andcatch errors before they become someone elses problem.

• Learn the why behind engineering standards and codes (NESC IEEE ANSI AISC ACI) not just the requirements to build real design judgment.

• Spend time at job sites to connect your designs to real-worldconstruction andbring proposed solutions along with any problems you raise.

• Master the document management system and corporate engineeringpractices andsay yes to travel andadditionalassignments to build credibility fast.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Working towards aBachelors degree inCivil Engineeringfrom an accredited university isrequireda power focus is internship and/or related work experience in the power field is preferred.

Possess skills in the following areas:

• Knowledge of steel and concrete design.

• Basic knowledge of structural analysis.

• Knowledge of common word processingspreadsheet and e-mail software.

• Working in a team environment.

• Communicating effectively with co-workers vendors clients etc.

• Ability to sit for extended periods during computer-based work.
• Ability to stand and walk intermittently throughout the workday.
• Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
• Occasional travel to other offices or meeting locations.

Environmental Conditions

• Primarily climate-controlled office environment.
• Occasional exposure to field or industrial environments during site visits.
