Job Summary

SUMMARY

CIVIL ENGINEER I:

Performs entry-level civil engineer duties during assignment to seven bureaus over an 18-month period which allows exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines in Highway Design Bureau.

CIVIL ENGINEER II:

To perform basic engineering duties for a variety of engineering projects in Highway Design Bureau.

CIVIL ENGINEER III:

To supervise and coordinate complex engineering activities for a group of highway projects in Highway Design Bureau.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

CIVIL ENGINEER I:

Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Experience: No experience required

OR

Education: Associates degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering or engineering technology.

Experience: Two (2) years of post-graduate experience in an engineering field in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Valid drivers license and/or have access to transportation for statewide travel.

Other Requirements: Applicants Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards established by the hiring agency.

Trainee Option: Not applicable

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering including a working knowledge of advanced high school mathematics.

Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam through the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

Criteria: 17-2050 Civil Engineers Level 1 to Level 2 (-BGA-01)

For promotion from 17-2050 Civil Engineers-1 job title to 17-2050 Civil Engineers-2 job title the eligibility requirements in Per 303.08 Broad Group Level Advancement must be satisfied.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

CIVIL ENGINEER II:

Education: Masters degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Experience: No experience required.

OR

Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of post baccalaureate experience in engineering field.

OR

Education: Associates degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering or engineering technology.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of experience in an engineering field at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher) plus two (2) additional years of experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Valid drivers license and/or have access to transportation for statewide travel.

Other Requirements: Applicants Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards established by the hiring agency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of mathematics including trigonometry and its application to field surveying and engineering computations.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience in an engineering field at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher) plus two (2) additional years of experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification: Valid drivers license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel.

Other Requirements:

  1. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the Department of Transportation.
  2. Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam through the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering with special reference to the activities of the appropriate specialty.
