The Role:

TheChiefThermalArchitectis a recognized and respected technical leader responsible forarchitectingdeveloping and strategically integrating advancedunderhoodunderbodyandcabinthermal systems. This role is pivotalforensuring GMremainsat the forefront ofthermalsystemsperformanceand efficiency. You will collaborate withCabin ComfortPropulsionElectrical Chassisand Systems Engineering teams as well asseveral Performance Integration teams DesignStudioandvarioussupport areas.You will be responsibletoleaddevelopment of thermalsolutions thatoptimizeperformanceand efficiencyintegratenew technologyreduce cost and massoperatereliablyenhancevehicle capabilityandenablevehicle assembly and service.

WhatYoullDo

  • Performvery earlynewprogram architecting including:

  • developoptimumthermal architecture for the program

  • determineproperBOM solutionsandpromoteanynew technologyinsertionas appropriate

  • establish vehicle criteria to enable thermal system performance

  • establishpreliminarythermalsystem sizing

  • identifysignificant architectural sizingconcerns

  • Provide initial cost estimates and PCS picks for early AVD Studies

  • Work with architects from other areas(Body Chassisetc). to create a winning vehicle solution

  • Represent AVD inearly studies aroundspecificarchitecture ideation and/orcross-program workgroups

  • Support Systems Engineering inestablishingasystem-level approach and mechanizations for thermal systems.

  • Support benchmarking activities of other OEMs and be well-versed in the thermal strategies of major competitors

  • Drive alignment ofoverallthermalsubsystem strategies to balance performance efficiency cost and integration requirements

  • Ensure we are executingETL/TSstrategies throughPeer Reviews AVD Design Review and otherinformal discussions

  • IdentifyAVD-related BP gaps and work with ETL/TSs toaddress them

  • Mentor less experienced Thermal AVD DREstohelp them resolve significant issuesandteach them the technology.Be visible and available on the floor.

  • Continuously improve AVD subsystem specific technical tools andwork with VDDV to improve analysismethods that enable excellentand efficientprogram work on time with quality.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 12 years of experience inthermal systems

  • Expertiseinthermalsystems integration and thermal management technologies.

  • Strong understanding ofAVD processes and workflow

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams and manage complex projects.

  • Excellent communication skillsand managerial couragefor conveying technical conceptsand negotiating vehicle trade-offswithleadership and peers.

  • Strong mentoring/teaching skills

  • Bachelors degree in engineering

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications).

  • Prior roles asThermal AVSE/VSEEngineering Technical Leader (ETL) Technical Specialist or Architect

  • Established relationships withinterfacing groupsrelated to this role (Vehicle Architecture Systems Engineering VDDV AeroDesign StudioETLs/TSsetc)

  • Recognized technical contributions through patents or publications.

  • DFSS Master Black Belt Certification.

  • Masters degree in Engineering.
