Position Summary
The Chief Inspector is responsible for leading and maintaining the inspection and quality-control functions of the FAA Part 145 avionics repair station. This position ensures maintenance alteration inspection testing documentation and return-to-service activities are performed in compliance with applicable FAA regulations manufacturer data customer requirements the Repair Station Manual Quality Control Manual and company procedures.
The Chief Inspector has the authority to stop work reject nonconforming articles and withhold approval for return to service when airworthiness quality safety procedural compliance or documentation requirements have not been met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Direct and supervise inspection personnel and ensure inspection coverage is adequate for the repair stations workload and ratings.
Ensure inspections are completed at required stages of maintenance repair alteration testing and final acceptance.
Verify that work is performed using current approved and applicable technical data including manufacturer manuals service information FAA-approved data and customer requirements.
Ensure technicians inspectors and personnel authorized to approve articles for return to service are properly trained qualified and authorized for assigned work.
Review maintenance records inspection records test results work orders discrepancy reports and return-to-service documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure articles are properly identified inspected controlled preserved and protected throughout the repair process.
Oversee the calibration and control of inspection test and measuring equipment used to determine conformity or airworthiness.
Administer the repair stations nonconformance and corrective-action process; investigating root causes and verify corrective actions are effective.
Lead internal audits of repair station processes records facilities tooling training and supplier controls.
Coordinate responses to FAA surveillance audits customer audits and quality findings.
Maintain required rosters and qualification records for inspection personnel supervisory personnel and personnel authorized to approve articles for return to service.
Ensure employee initial and recurrent training records are current and that employees remain capable of performing assigned tasks.
Monitor quality trends repeat discrepancies escapes rework customer returns and audit findings; recommend process improvements.
Coordinate with operations engineering supply chain customer service and management to resolve technical and quality issues.
Ensure suspected unapproved parts damaged articles and non-airworthy conditions are properly identified segregated documented and handled according to company and regulatory procedures.
Maintain a safe professional work environment and promote a culture of compliance accountability continuous improvement and aviation safety.
Perform other duties assigned by the Accountable Manager that are within the scope of the repair station certificate and company procedures.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or aviation maintenance education preferred.
FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate preferred; Repairman Certificate or other qualifications appropriate to the repair stations ratings may be acceptable.
Minimum of 510 years of progressively responsible aviation maintenance avionics repair inspection or quality-control experience.
Minimum of 25 years of supervisory or inspection leadership experience preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of avionics maintenance practices troubleshooting functional testing inspection techniques and test equipment.
Thorough working knowledge of applicable FAA regulations including 14 CFR Parts 43 65 and 145.
Ability to read write and understand English and interpret technical manuals drawings wiring diagrams service bulletins and maintenance data.
Proficiency with inspection tools calibrated test equipment and electronic maintenance-record systems.
Strong leadership communication organization problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Authority
The Chief Inspector is authorized to:
Stop maintenance or inspection activity when safety quality regulatory procedural or documentation requirements are not met.
Reject work parts materials test results or records that do not meet applicable requirements.
Require reinspection retest corrective action additional training or procedural review before work proceeds.
Recommend suspension or removal of inspection or return-to-service authorization when qualifications or compliance requirements are not maintained.
Escalate significant quality safety regulatory or airworthiness concerns directly to the Accountable Manager.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an avionics repair-station environment and may require standing walking lifting up to 50 pounds working around energized electronic equipment and using personal protective equipment. Occasional overtime schedule flexibility customer interaction and audit support may be required.
