Job Summary
Summary Perform general carpentry work to include building installing repairing and maintaining of structures furniture doors windows etc. as directed. Operate associated power and hand tools and equipment. Ideal candidate will have expertise in finish carpentry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Studies blueprints sketches or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required such as lumber or fiberboard and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
- Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
- Prepares layout.
- Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.
- Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails dowel pins or glue.
- Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenters level.
- Welds metal parts to steel structural members.
- Build and install door and window framings; install locks door knobs and other hardware.
- Repair and maintain doors floors windows partitions ceiling and building exteriors.
- Build repair and refinish wood furniture and fixtures to include cabinets tables shelving bulletin boards etc.
- Maintain carpentry tools in working order.
- Erect maintain and dismantles walls and structures.
- Hang and finish drywall as needed.
- Repairs and prepares surfaces to be painted including patching cleaning scraping sanding priming etc.
- Takes protective measures to cover floors and furnishings in the immediate vicinity of the areas to be painted.
- Uses all safety precautions when erecting using and tearing down ladders and scaffolding.
- Paints repaired/prepared surfaced with proper finishes.
- Keeps job site clean and in order which may include washing walls vacuuming floors moving furnishings etc.
- Works cooperatively efficiently courteously and professionally with other operations and maintenance trades as well as faculty and staff to ensure the least possible disruption occurs during the application of paint.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Must possess valid Tennessee drivers license.
Other Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of applicable safety rules and practices. Ability to operate and maintain various hand and power tools including planers jointers drill presses power saws and sanders. Ability to read sketches prints and diagrams.
