POSITION SUMMARY

The Career Development (Work Study) Teacher coordinates a comprehensive work-study and career development program that provides students with valuable work experiences and implements a post-secondary curriculum to optimize career readiness. The Work-Study Teacher delivers curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) expectations and outcomes for College and Career Readiness (CCR). This commitment aligns with Framingham Public Schools high expectations for achievement equal access to quality instruction academic proficiency for all students and closing the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Framingham Public Schools seeks candidates whose background teaching or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity inclusion and belonging in all aspects of education.

  • Educational Requirement: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university required; Masters Degree preferred.
  • Professional Experience: Public education experience required with direct experience as a classroom teacher preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with career development post-secondary pathway options and work-study program frameworks.
  • Language Proficiency: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferred.

  1. Career Development & Curriculum Integration: Ability to design implement and evaluate work-study and career development curricula aligned with DESE College and Career Readiness expectations.
  2. Community & Business Partnership: Skill in identifying developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with local employers industry partners and community organizations.
  3. Student Guidance & Coaching: Strong ability to assist students with job placement interview preparation career exploration and setting career goals.
  4. Data-Driven Evaluation & Progress Monitoring: Proficiency in assessing student workplace performance collecting program data and maintaining accurate records to track student progress.
  5. Differentiated & Inclusive Instruction: Skill in working with students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs in an equitable culturally responsive manner.
  6. Adaptive Technology Integration: Ability to utilize instructional and administrative technology (including Google Workspace and career tracking tools) effectively.
  7. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Ability to collaborate with school counselors administrators special education staff and multidisciplinary teams to support holistic student success.
  8. Cultural Proficiency: Demonstrated competence in fostering an equitable and inclusive learning environment for all students families and staff.
  9. Professional Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills for presenting to staff parents employers and community stakeholders.
  10. Professionalism & Composure: Capacity to manage multiple projects independently handle unpredictable classroom or workplace situations and maintain appropriate confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Program Coordination & Employer Relations

  • Directs and oversees the schools work experience and career development program.
  • Locates investigates and establishes community job placement opportunities suitable for participating students.
  • Serves as a liaison between Framingham High School local businesses and industry partners in collaboration with school counseling.
  • Assists students in job applications interviews and obtaining employment opportunities within the community for the program.
  • Assists in planning and execution of career fairs and other events/initiatives related to career development in collaboration with the Student Success Academy & School Counseling Department.

II. Instruction & Curriculum Delivery

  • Plans and delivers work-study curriculum focused on post-secondary planning career exploration vocational skills workplace expectations and employer-employee dynamics.
  • Aligns program instructional practices with DESE College and Career Readiness standards.
  • Teaches a Career Exploration & Preparation class for 10th grade students within the Student Success Academy

III. Student Coaching Supervision & Evaluation

  • Monitors student performance on the job providing ongoing supervision and conducting workplace evaluations in collaboration with employers.
  • Assists school counselors with career guidance activities and transition planning as appropriate.
  • Consults regularly with teachers administrators and support staff regarding student employability academic progress and scheduling.

IV. Program Administration & Compliance

  • Maintains accurate confidential student records and work performance data in compliance with district policies state regulations and federal laws.
  • Interprets and promotes the Career Development Program to school personnel families and community stakeholders.
  • Attends workshops and ongoing professional development relevant to career education as appropriate and approved by building administration.

  3. Sensory Requirements:Must be able to see and hear continuously to ensure student safety monitor classroom operations and provide instruction in active school environments.

  4. Communication:Must communicate effectively and clearly with students parents and district personnel in person via email and on the telephone or video conference.

  5. Manual Dexterity & Technology:Frequent use of hands to finger handle or feel. Must be able to operate a computer input data and utilize instructional technology and office productivity machinery continuously throughout the day.

  6. General Physical Strength:Ability to lift move and position classroom materials and equipment (up to 30 lbs) such as books supplies and bulk student devices.

  7. Working Environment:Must be able to adapt to dynamic higher-noise school environments during classroom instruction recess and observations.

  8. Interaction & Focus:Must interact routinely with diverse stakeholders meet multiple high-level demands simultaneously and maintain focus on student needs amid frequent interruptions.

  9. School Environment Exposure:Ability to navigate and function effectively within diverse school settings including classrooms cafeterias and playgrounds which involve varying noise levels and high-activity environments.

  10. Behavioral De-escalation & Resilience:Capacity to remain calm and professional when exposed to student behavioral challenges or high-stakes emotional situations; ability to model and apply de-escalation techniques as needed.
