Description of Job


The position leads the Capitol Complex Facilities Management Division through the oversight and administration of all operational aspects of the Capitol Complex buildings and addition to facilities management the position oversees budgeting the Capitol Complex Architects office and operational aspects of State Capitol events. The position oversees the management of staff and relationships with all Capitol Complex tenants including those in the State Capitol and all contractors and vendors required for the operation and maintenance of the Capitol Complex building and grounds portfolio. The position represents the Department as a member of the Capitol Building Advisory Committee.

A summary of the duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Management of Staff
  • Divisions include the Office of the Capitol Complex Architect Capitol Complex facilities maintenance groups including systems specialists grounds crews custodial groups and Administrators.
  • This position oversees the staff responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Capitol Complex facilities including all buildings and grounds.
  • The position leads the day-to-day facilities operations across the Capitol Complex portfolio and is responsible for the oversight and management of capital construction and controlled maintenance projects.
Budget and Contract oversight
  • This position will oversee the Capitol Complex budget in conjunction with the Director of State Properties and DPA partnership with DPA senior leadership the Capitol Complex Facilities Director helps set project priorities and allocate resources across the Capitol Complex portfolio.
  • Tenant/Stakeholder engagement - The position serves as the primary source of contact for tenant and stakeholder engagement for most Capitol Complex issues.
  • The Capitol Complex Facilities Director will maintain relationships with Capitol Complex tenants security personnel and vendors.
  • They will be responsible for public inquiries regarding the use of the Capitol Complex facilities for events meetings and other special requests.
Project and Resource Prioritization
  • This position is responsible for prioritization and allocation of resources required for maintenance repairs and construction of Capitol Complex facilities.
  • The position helps establish the prioritization of Capitol Complex projects and budgeting and is ultimately responsible for construction repair and maintenance projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience Only:
At least ten (10) years of relevant experience two (2) of which must include supervisory experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position

Or

Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience two (2) of which must include supervisory experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to at least ten (10) years


Theexceptional candidatewill possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following preferred qualifications:

  • Previous State service related to the work assigned to the position
  • Familiarity with the State of Colorado procurement process
  • Background with facilities management at a portfolio level (multiple properties)
  • Experience supervising and directing teams and staff
  • Experience with tenant or customer relations
