Description of Work

The Community Employment Program Specialist position is located in Durham County Durham unit office. The position provides services to persons who have disabilities which prevent them from independently obtaining maintaining or retaining employment. The Community Employment Program Specialist/Business Relations Representative (BRR) works in partnership with Rehabilitation Counselors and Vocational Evaluators to determine suitable vocational options for individuals with disabilities and subsequently assist them in obtaining competitive employment within the community.
The incumbent will also develop and maintain relationships with employers in Durham County.

Job responsibilities include the following:

Assists in the placement of eligible consumers in compatible and competitive employment that is consistent with their interests and abilities.

Work closely with counselors to determine appropriate vocational goals for consumers and identify the availability of similar positions in the community.

Teaching employment marketing classes to job-ready consumers.

Teaching job retention classes.

Provide written and verbal feedback to counselors regarding the progress of referred consumers efforts to obtain employment.

Coordinate in-school work adjustment programs.

Meet with local and regional employers to explain agency mission and goals and to obtain their agreement and commitment to hire vocational rehabilitation (VR) consumers.

Participate in job fairs and other community events to promote the agency and its consumers as well as represent the work unit on boards and committees as designated by the Unit Manager and or Counselor in Charge.

Be heavily involved in the planning and implementation of National Disability Employment Awareness events.

  Bachelors degree in a human services or business field such as human resources marketing business administration business management healthcare management
  OR public administration from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associates degree in a human services or business field (identified above) from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience;
  OR High school or General Educational Development (GED) and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
